Painting help to get car ready for sale

I had a wheel fall off my car (I think someone was trying to steal the wheels) the Insurance Company is totaling the car. I am torn on buying it back and just painting the damage parts and selling the car or parting it out. If I do end up painting it where can I buy spray paint that will match. I am not looking for a good job just something so it doesnt have a black fender when I go to sell it not looking to get much money for it.

Total waste of your time. Rattle can spray paint won't increase the value of the car any. Just sell it as is or part it out or fix it and drive it.

The next person that buys the car will most likely take it to a shop and have it done professionally. Rattle can must be taken down to bare metal. You should never leave any trace of it there so its just more work for them.
Here's a video showing the proses of getting it ready for paint . It talks about the difference between a E-coat and cheep primer that comes on the panel and how to test to determine what's on there now. =

While I agree with you guys the person thats going to buy the car next is not going to restore it. I just want to be able make it look a little better so it is sellable and dont want to take the time to part it out. I was my fault for not having the agreed value higher.

I personally think that you will be dollars ahead if you bolt the wheel back on and sell it as is. The only thing I would fix for selling it would be to make sure the door doesn't hit the fender.

Re: Painting help to get car ready for sale

Guys like me would be out looking for a car like that for projects. It won't be long before I'm searching for a track/targa car and pristine cars won't be what I'm looking for since the car will be getting pulled apart anyways... I would rather see the damage as is instead of trying to find what the seller is hiding by doing a quick fix. Either way I wouldn't be paying more $ if it's fixed because chances are I'll end up re-doing the repair or the labour of stripping the panel down all the way when I go to paint the car.

How could you possibly know what the next owner will do with it ?

If the car is the IROC in your profile info , I'll bet the next owner will most likely restore it , and as such i think Ramlt's advice is spot on , bolt the wheel back on , and then sell it as is .

You're likely going to make money by buying the car back and selling it as-is... I assume they pay you out for the loss so that's money in your pocket, you loose a bit to buy the car back, but then selling the car nets you more money... Unless I've got that all wrong.

I think you're ahead to sell it as-is, if the rest of the car is good, someone will buy it.
