I've seen at least 3 different 87 Formula's in yellow around here... Not really rare. Unfortunately the color has a tendency to fade to white, same with the yellow Iroc's. Its cool regardless, but I wouldn't pay a $ more than I would if it where black, white, red, or blue.

I own 2 yellow Formulas, both 87, one is...well just look at my sig.

The color was only offered in 87 & 88, and then it was kind of re-introduced in 92 as a different name. 87 & 88 were "Yellow Gold" and 92 they called it "Jamaca Yellow"

Rarity, yes & no, Since I have only seen about 6 in my life that were yellow, that does not say a whole lot. Seen only 1 in a salvage yard. Never seen an 88 Yellow Formula to my knowledge though...

As far as fading, yes, my car was severly faded when I bought it. Granted the paint was 10 years old. I have seen black cars turn to gray within a few years.

I personally think Yellow is the best color on the Formula in 87-92, Since most Formulas seem to be Red or Black, it does stand out as being unusual.

Actually, for historical purposes, on the front of the 87 Pontiac Booklets had a pic of the Formula hood buldge, in yellow.

My dream car would be a Fully loaded 1992 Yellow Formula 350 with T-tops, black laced wheels. I have never seen or head of them in yellow. But I do know the 350 was available with T-tops that year...

Nope... from 90-92, NO cars were offered with the 350/T-top combo... that why my 92 Vert is only a 305 TPI. Kinda sucks huh?

Actually in 1992 the Formula could be had with L98, and CC1 but only with the crosslace wheels. Its a fact, do a search.

DREW is so correct, Matter of fact, I am not sure about Camaros but Firebirds were available with T-tops & a 350 only 2 years 1989 & 1992.

I have seen only a few Camaro's with 350's & T-tops. One was an 89, I remember that...

I almost bought a 1989 GTA 350, loaded to the extreme, with T-tops. White. The guy wanted $8500 for it. Really nice car.

The reason I herd from a friend of a GM exec that loved these cars, said that the reason 350 cars did not have t-tops in most cases was: Due to the fact that T-tops were popular, & the 350 would also be a popular option, to keep 350 sales down (for emissions reasons) T-tops were not generally offered. Many people would opt to settle for a 305 & T-tops.

Sheesh, that's like tossing a pack of cigarettes into a room of reformed smokers, then giving them one single match.

My most favorite third-gen of all time is the 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula.

Re: Rare yellow Formula???

there's a yellow firebird convertable here in town, but i don't know if it's a formula. it's a 91-92 body style, and it has a V8, but again, i don't know if the engine is original. everyone around here says it's all original, except one person that told me it has a supercharger on it.

I just need to find her someday and ask her about it.

Re: Rare yellow Formula???

I would KILL to have a yellow formula, the only one i have seen was my friends back in wisconsin, he had a yellow iroc and his dad had a yellow formula, Very clean cars, im very partial to 3rd gens who dont have the same old paint as most other third gens, thats why i like my car, medium maui blue, i have only seen a picture of one other one and never seen another one in person, dont know if its rare or not but it sure does stand out from the others i have seen.

Re: Rare yellow Formula???

I have seen several of the medium maui blue cars, but it's still not that common. More common than cream Z28's and silver Iroc's (I've had/have both). I do like the maui blue though

So is the jamaica yellow the same paint code as yellow gold?

Yellow is soooo overrated!!
Torch Red is where it's at.

this is straight out the camera and how it looks with direct sunlight on it.

Yea as far as i know medium maui blue only came on the RS and only in 91, possibly 92, when i paint my car im just going to repaint it the same color since i love it soo much. I do like torch red though, but sadly red is so common on our cars.
