Wrecked 87 iroc z
Currently looking at this 1987 iroc z28 5 speed.
He is asking 4k. Runs and drives good, 63k miles, clear title. Main damage is to the left rear quarter and bumper. Some damage on the right too. Wondering what it’s worth?

Re: Wrecked 87 iroc z
Nowhere near 4K that's for sure. It depends on your skill level and plans for it. If it runs, drives and has a nice interior with uncracked dash pad, maybe 1500 tops if you want to keep it as a project, less if you want to part it out. That thing needs quite a bit of work if you have to put it in the shop and have to pay for it.

Jay146992, forget what others think when it comes to asking an opinion about the value of a car. It's all about what YOU are willing to pay for it. If it is appealing to you and you want it bad enough, your happiness is all that matters. And if you can do the work needed to put it back to normal, even better. IMO, these cars are starting to become classics and good investments. I don't think you'll go wrong.

^^^^^^^What he said, it's all subjective tho. 4k is kinda steep tho to. I missed out on a similar car last summer for not much more than that. But, if bodywork is your thing, and you can get her fixed up for not much cash, then go for it. Edit... Just noticed there's no tuned port badge? If it's not a TPI car then it needs to be way cheaper...

I don't know why...but so many here when asked for a valuation automatically go right to a super low number. It almost seems like a car is worth either $15k or $500.
You have to base the value of that off of what's good, your ability to fill the gaps of what's bad, and how far away you are from the current value. A new quarter and bumper will run you $300-500 in parts depending on if you go new, can get local, or from a scrapyard (potentially cheaper). The major gap here is bodywork & paint and you seem to be able to take that on. Assuming the interior is good, you might have a nice deal here. I would offer $2800 and meet somewhere in the $3k range (especially if it's not a TPI). With parts, paint, materials, and your own (free) labor you could potentially get this thing straight for under the sale value, coming out on top. Also run the VIN and see if the accident shows up. Later in life that will knock the value.

A totaled car is worth salvage value. You can't uncrash the car. At least not without replacing and rebuilding half the car, and it's still a rebuild. You may love it now, but how will you feel about it when you've dumped a bunch of time and money into rebuilding the car, and something else comes along? No one is going to pay a premium price for a rebuilt car.

I agree that $4k is a little steep. In my neck of the woods (Nebraska), an '87 iroc in good condition will go in the $5k-$8k range. However like others have said before, it is only worth what you feel its worth. If it was me, and I had the collision skills, I'd pick it up.
