power trunk pull down

Does anyone know if a firebird power trunk pull down will work on a camaro? My mechanism has been ruined by some thieving jerk. I can't find one locally but I have found a firebird parts car with one in it. I just don't want to go through the trouble of pulling the part and paying for it to find out it won't fit right.

Re: power trunk pull down

I believe they are the same, year for year, but if the year of the other car is a different year, then the pulldown can be a different design.

Re: power trunk pull down

My car is an 89 and I'd put this donor at about 90-91'. It's hard to tell it's missing a lot of pieces. The module is a different design though. Mine has two rails that are visible this one looks more condensed than mine does. It is hard to tell if the bolt pattern is similar because the design is so different. I just looked on ebay and there is no way i'm paying 250 dollars for this thing. That's ridiculous. Mines rails are all loose and it won't stop running the motor if I plug it in but I will take it off and try fixing it before i spend that kind of money on one.

Re: power trunk pull down

The same pull down assembly (depending on year) was used in Cadillacs, Olds, Buick
cars.

Here is a list for the 86-91 pull down motor assembly (thanks to Lon at top down solutions))
and which car/year usage FYI that I asked about above:

Buick: 1980-93 Electra, 1985-93 Park Avenue, 1980-93 Riviera, 1992-96 Roadmaster

Cadillac: 1987-93 Allante, 1980-96 Brougham, 1980-93 Eldorado, 1980-96 Fleetwood Sedan,
1985-93 Fleetwood, 1980-83 Fleetwood, 1980-93 Seville

Chevrolet (Chevy): 1986-91 Camaro

Chrysler: 1989-91 TC by Maserati

Oldsmobile: 1988-93 98 Regency, 1986-89 Toronado

Pontiac: 1986-91 Firebird, 1985-92 Grand Am

So if your parts yard hunting for a hatch/trunk motor assem. you know which cars to look for.

Re: power trunk pull down

ok, thanks. I'll have to start scouring the bone yards. I just started driving this car again after 5 years and now I can't go three blocks without someone offering to buy it off of me! It is as buggy as any car that sat for 5 years but i'm torn about selling it.

Re: power trunk pull down

Keep it. You can drill some holes in the mechanism and run a couple of bolts through to make it a fixed latch. Just make sure it is adjusted right and it will work like any trunk lid. Problem solved.

Re: power trunk pull down

I’m running one from a Cadillac on my ‘88. Sure beat paying over $200 for a rebuilt one. Total cost of repairing mine was a little over $30..and that included replacing the nylon guides in the frame, (which is what killed it in the first place)...mine had turned into thousands of pieces of nylon dust.

Re: power trunk pull down

That's what mine needs I'm pretty sure, it doesn't even have them, where did you get your nylon guides through? Mine is just loose in its tracks.

Re: power trunk pull down

You can get all the parts you will ever need for the pulldown assemblies from Lon @ http://www.top-downsolutions.com/

The clear plastic motor housing, and gear nut are available in the aftermarket from places like Rock Auto. Pretty sure there's at least a couple other sources for the slides. It's really not that difficult to rebuild one, just takes a bit of time. Working with all the dirty greasy parts is about the worst of it.

Re: power trunk pull down

Everything on my car is old and greasy! In fact, the driver is older than the car and getting that way too so I better not discriminate too much! LOL!
