Hi Guys, Just starting to tidy up my car now for summer, and its the first time I've actually got around to doing something with the drivers door. As you can see from the pictures, it closes behind the fender at the front, but sticks out slightly at the back. (it doesn't make contact with anything or rub the fender ets.)
It doesn't seem to sag on its hinges , the car is otherwise pretty straight, panels all line up etc, but the door itself doesn't seem to open and close as solid as the passenger side door and there is quite a gap between the top of the inner door panel and window on the inside.
could it be the actual door that's bent? Or has anyone experienced this before and can point me in the direction of where i should start looking to get this to line up,
or is it an autoshop job? Thanks guys

 

I'd try to move the door striker in. That would make it close more on the back side. If that helps but the fender still appears to be out, make sure the lower fender mount isnt crushed at the pinch weld under the car, behind the front wheel. If it is, it can be bent back straight with a crescent wrench and it'll pull the fender back in as you straighten it. Its a common problem from people thinking they can jack the car up on that punch weld.....but it folds right over and misaligns the fender in the process.

I think the door striker takes a t50 torx bit if I remember right

I agree with Dagwood. Looks like the typical bowed fender from jacking on the pinchweld and the door doesn't look to be all the way closed. Is it fully latched closed, or only the 1st latch (should click twice when you close it like most doors)? If it is fully latched, then the latch probably needs adjustment at the striker.

 

I concur. Seen this several times over the years. The 82 I just picked up is like this on one side and it's rolled at the bottom.

 

Yeah the door is closed properly (two strikes) I need to start replacing suspension components now they've all arrived so I'll get the car on axle stands this weekend and investigate underneath. Hopefully a relatively easy fix

 

If the pinch weld is crushed....its about a 30 second fix. The striker is as fast to adjust. Let us know what ya find!
