Door stay detent arm rivet

Does anyone have a part number for the door stay detent arm rivet, or a replacement bolt for this spot? Changing out the driver side door on my 88, and the door I am putting on had a lot of slop in it so I went ahead and whacked the old one out - but now I am having trouble finding anything online. Also, is there supposed to be a bushing in there somewhere? The old rivet shot across my shop with some air hammer action freeing it up, and I'm not sure if anything else may have been in there.

Thanks!

I wonder what the tool looks like to install and press that rivet on car?
I cant find the right tool on line search that does it.

Remove old rivet, drop new one in cleaned hole, zap with the mig welder. IIRC they're staked from the factory. Probably easier to use a nut and bolt combo with a bushing and washer, or have someone machine a replacement rivet. Might be interesting getting the steel just right that it could be machined but still not wear out quickly. Fortunately it's not that terribly important.

Re: Door stay detent arm rivet

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up finding a different solution, because I don't feel I could install one of those rivets in a reliable fashion. I went to O'reilly's with the old rivet I knocked out, a set of digital calipers, opened some boxes and bought the Dorman 38458 for newer Chev trucks. It has bolts similar to what you would use in the upper door hinge, but the size was right for the detent arm with a flanged bushing on one side, washer on the other, and a nylock nut supplied in the kit. There is a small amount of play between the bushing and arm, but I feel it's acceptable and worlds better than it was. You can find it for a lot less than what I paid online, but convenience and physically having the parts in my hands to measure was worth it for me at the time.

I wasn't sure if it would press into the tab on the door hinge, but it did perfectly without any grinding for me. The press in section has lines on it like what you would see on a wheel stud just past the threads.

I hope this helps someone.

Re: Door stay detent arm rivet

The door is now on the car, so this is the best I can do.

Cool. Looks like your detent roller is worn out too. It appears to be cocked in the picture

Re: Door stay detent arm rivet

The roller is a PITA. The pin will come out with some heat and persuasion. Getting the new pin in is another exercise. Then you realize the top of the post is worn and the new roller/pin still don't keep the roller from tilting. LOL Next one I do, I'll be sure to square off the top of the post before pressing in the new pin. I'm fairly happy with how the roller and detent works now, but I went ahead and bought an NOS hinge just in case...
