Updating a high rise spoiler design

Hi everyone,

Ive been toying around with the idea on the high rise spoiler, and that is to remove the 2 middle pillars and modify the ends of the spoiler so that it “swoops” inward, leaving more room to add some studs for reinforcement. Basically making it look nearly exactly like the F40 spoiler, which it was modeled after anyways. Just a thought and I wanted to get some feedback on it.

Not my car. I pulled it off google.

Not a fan. Reminds me of the Fast and Furious rice burner craze of the early 2000's. Every dumb kid had a Honda Civic with a ridiculous spoiler and stupid loud exhaust for their 4 cylinder engine.

If you're looking for opinions, here's mine: I've never seen any aftermarket or modified factory spoiler that I thought looked right on a 3rd gen Camaro or Firebird. In the past, I've seen a few that looked cartoonish, making me wonder what the owner was thinking---or if he was thinking at all.

I have one laying around if you want to try this on one other than your own.

I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and say the overall consensus is No.

I think you're right. I would leave it alone. I have one on my Z-28. The only mod I could think of, that would look ok, would be a 14" led third brake light in the edge of the spoiler. If I were to do it, I would probably use one from a '90-'92 Honda Accord. Their optional spoiler had one that would be perfect for this.

i would also say no way. I dont like the high rise on these cars to begin with. Chopping the center supports off will only make it look cheesier.

I think you and I might be the only high rise haters on forum. Lol

And to be honest I don’t completely hate it. If I had a 91-92 z28 I’d leave it in place but I would never swap a factory 3 piece for a high rise. When I bought my 88 it had the high rise, it now lives in my shed.

Its just really strange to see. I’ve read through threads where people change out bumpers or modify their cars and what not and no one seems to bat an eye. You cut a fuel pump access door and get a few grumbles but that’s about it. But the almighty high rise spoiler? You would swear it was sacrilege to some folks. Personally I prefer the 3 piece over the high rise any day of the week. IMO it just flows with the car.

If you prefer the 3pc, then why would you want to swap/mod to the hi-rise. They're heavy too are'nt they?

Well thats the thing, my car is a 91 Z28 so it automatically came with the high rise spoiler and next month the plan is to repair the paint and body. I am/was toying with a couple of ideas: leavethe high rise spoiler, modify the one I have OR just saying F it and go for the 3 piece spoiler, regardless of the hole drilling and deck lid swapping.

Re: Updating a high rise spoiler design

The high rise spoiler on 91-92s were bad enough and modifying one would most certainly not help it.

Maybe I’ll have to pony up 500 bucks for a Hawk’s spoiler instead. Very tempting.
