Door Lock Color

Refresh my memory... were the door locks originally bare steel or flat black? My car got a Maaco paint job in the 90s, and they just sprayed over everything. I thought these cars originally had them flat or semi gloss black, but I've seen some in bare steel too. Plus, it seems like a bare steel lock would stand out too much on my black car. So, I'm not sure which way to restore it. Thoughts?

I redid the paint on mine when I did the billet handles, since the black paint on mine was all gone. I used SEM Trim Black Satin Finish 49143 after seeing the thread below.

On the 3rd gens, they were semi/low gloss black.

The center part of the door locks that rotated with the key was black too. However, I think that part was originally anodized black to resist scratches. The little vertical rectangular spring loaded door the key pushed into was the only part that was metal color (not black).
