Hiya guys I currently got my first Firebird. A 1985 Trans am to be exact and currently getting my registration done and plates but to my surprise I could not find a proper Front plate holder/bracket..... I don't want to have to bend my new plates in half to screw it onto the bumper..... so if someone out there could recommend a nice license plate bracket fully functional for a trans am of the 85 kind I would be very appreciative thank you. Pics below with red marks displaying the holes already on the bumper for plates.

 

Just do not run a front plate. I am also in IL and none of my vehicles have front plates. If you get pulled over just say you are waiting for the bracket in the mail. The state is horrible.

 

Nice you live in Illinois I've been looking for a few guys close by to share thoughts with and could possibly take a look at my car and give me there idea on what I can do to better it.

 

GM had brackets that dealers installed. Just hunt one up in the junkyard along with the screws and stuff.

Second on not running a front plate, I'm also in Illinois and only one of my third gens has a front plate (for now) and neither of my fourth gens has one. Haven't had any issues...but now that I posted that I probably will. I'm in Morris so I'm in an area of Illinois that is a bit more rural so things may be a little more relaxed here.

 

There were U shaped brackets that bolted to a generic plate frame.

Id look for original;s so you can cover those holes. Plus it looks the best IMO


Here in Hawaii we are required by LAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW to have it physically mounted to the bumper... can't just throw it on the dash...... it sucks....

 

Illinois here as well. I don't run a front plate on any of my cars, never had an issue. give a shout if you need any help. be glad to assist

 

Such a shame to destroy the beauty of the Trans Am by bolting a front plate to that nose. At least the Camaro has a spot for it. I went to great pains to eliminate the holes on my 84. Thank God neither of the states I have lived have required a front plate. (Michigan and North Carolina).

 

It appears you already have the optional front bumper( holes already drilled) that receives the license plate holder RPO code VK3,I actually have a NOS

I have an '84 T/A & the front licence plate bracket is, what appears to be held in place with two thick pads of double glued.

 

These brackets are used from 82-87 for the front license plate holder
