I put in on really thick to plug a water leak and 1 hour dry time is 3 days
if I put a hair dryer on it will it help it dry
or do I just wait a week

I'm inclined to suggest you stick closely to package directions, at least if this is the first time you've used this product.

I also know for a fact car factorys cure sealer in huge high heat gas fired ovens that bake paint and e coat and sealer

 

If it's the yellow single tube/caulk gun seam seal, it's garbage...It will dry out and crack to the point that you will be doing it again in a year or two. Especially if you laid it on "extra thick". Scrape it off and get a quality SEM, 3M, Duramix or equivalent 2-part urethane seam seal.

If it's an upper surface, a self-leveling will work...but they're a little runny, so you may need to dam it on the ends.

all I want to know is can I heat it up with the hairdryer to make the thick part cure

 

I don't mean the color of the tube...I mean the actual sealer itself. It would be easier if you can either give me the part number or show a pic of the actual tube. I can't tell you if you "should" run a hair dryer over it, without knowing what you used. (Acrylic vs. urethane products). Try it and see.

If you piled it on, then it will take longer to cure, and potentially do more harm than good. It's like any other substrate, skinning over and trapping solvents, and not allowing to cure through because it's too thick.

23*c is @74*F and plenty warm to cure a urethane product, relatively quickly. If you're having cooler nights due to being in the Great White North, and keeping it garaged, it's also going to take longer. Should be a minimum of 65*F (metal temp) for good results.

How did you apply it? Was there a tip that spread it evenly over the area? Or did you just "goop" it on? Did you brush it in the offending crack first (pushing it in to the leak area)?

 

It was with my fingers I just wirewheeled the rust off then put it on a patch 2" diameter where the water was leaking in

 

What are you wanting/expecting it to do? It is not going to dry hard like a epoxy or glue. It is going to stay "somewhat" soft and pliable for a long time, most seam sealer does. The 1/2" thick portion will be fine.

Leave it be. Don't worry about it. Using a hairdryer isn't going to help it, in fact it might ruin it. Cause it to dry out too fast, shrink and crack.
