Help! Does anyone know back side of this panel?

Working on my 86 iroc redoing all the firewall seam sealer and fixing rust holes in my passengers fire wall from a leaking windshield and plugged cowl drain. I found this rust on the drivers side under the seam sealer, it’s up in the corner where the cowl and kick panel meet. Picked out all the sealer and insulation. Doesn’t seam like rot and may be surface rust. I can stick my 90 degree pick in the gap on the left and spin the pick 180 degrees and also hook it behind where the rust starts.

to me this seems like this is where the panels butt with each other were welded together. Where the rust starts looks and feels like a bead and the rest of the rust feels like a bead and is super hard. If I hook my pick behind where it starts I can’t pull on it and none of the rust is flaking off or punching thru if I pick or scrape at it so that gives me hope it’s not rot.

I think the window must of leaked on the drivers side too and this is where it drained. I just can’t see behind it and can’t see on the outside after removing the drivers fender. Trying to figure out if this is just two panels butting together or if I need to get behind it.

i have some evaporust on it right now to see how it reacts. Thinking about possibly treating it and por15.just trying to figure out how to get to the back side with out hacking random holes.

anyone see the back side? Thanks!

YEA ITS WHERE THE COWL MEETS THE FIREWALL AND KICK PANEL ON DRIVERS SIDE.IVE BEEN SCRAPING AT IT WITH PICKS AND WIRE WHEELS,ALSO HIT IT WITH EVAPO RUST AND THE RUST HAS BEEN COMING OFF.

IM JSUT CONCERNED ABOUT WHATS BEHIND THAT I CANT SEE, LOOKING IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE TO CUT TO FIND THE BACK SIDE AND TREAT ANY RUST THERE.

Re: Help! Does anyone know back side of this panel?

So I scrapped a big junk of rust out with my degree 90 pick. Went back for more and the pick went through. Started looking around out side and finally found the back side of this rust. Looks like it’s inside the box frame that the drivers fender sits on where the cowl drains.

guess im going to have to cut a window in that box frame to be able to get a better look and patch up the rust. Guess this car isn’t going to move for a while.
