aftermarket steering wheel problems

I have a 92 Z. when I built the car it had a blown airbag, so I bought a grant wheel. 13 1/2 inch I think. the problem is it seems that the steering is tight now and not as responsive as the factory wheel. I barely had enough threads on the center bolt to tighten the nut down. if I back the nut off any it will be to loose. I bought the install kit for an 89. I though the 92 application was not avalible because of the airbag. Was I wrong Is this my problem. Has anyone else had the same problem. I also had to trim the plastic houseing on the column to keep it from rubbing. Help!!!!!!!!!

When I installed mine I remember reading that it would not work on cars with an air bag, so you might be right, i am at school so i dont have access to my paperwork. I am pretty sure that is your problem.

Here's mine:

i hooked up the pedals to the courtesy lights so they come on when i open the door or i can turn the ****. (btw - removed the bulbs from my courtesy lights, and when i get a pass underdash panel i am putting a 10 inch tube under the passenger side, looks cool as **** when the tube is hidden and all you can see is the light (my friend did that)

we used black lights back in 1989 in our cars, made it a little hard to see out a night. it hurt my eyes. I want to use blue or purple tubes under my dash but how is the new tubes on the eyes while driving

i usually dont have the pedals on while driving becuase i have a 1o inch tube overhead on the same curcuit and since its blue its kinda illeal to drive with that on

the tube is not under the passenger side yet, i currently have it wires into curcuit for the hatch but once i get the underdash panel its going up front becuase i have tubes around my wallmart woofers that i am going to wire up through the hatch curcuit.

You might need to get an 89 or earlier column and install that if you want to keep that wheel. Shouldn't be all that expensive or hard to do, I got my column replaced for $150 a few years back.

Hey I just got that same steering wheel today! Cost me $42 from auto zone, then the $15 adaptor kit. Coulda got it from Jegs just as easy, but why pay shipping when you don't have to? It'll go on sometime this week. I've been meaning to do this since the first day i got the car... that base model steering wheel is just ugly IMO. Plus it matches the color of the car

I got my wheel from advance auto. was about $52. I could have ordered it cheeper. I thougt about taking the wheel off and grinding the install kits aluminum block down for more room to tighting the retainer nut down more. and also grind where anything is rubbing. this may help.

I have a 92 RS. I got the same Grant wheel as above. The biggest prob I had was the bolts with the kits did not want to fit so I had to go to lowes to get some that would. I did tap the wheel on with a plastic face hammer though.(the directions never said that would be the easiest way to get it on tight!) I did not even bother with that damn rear trim piece that was in the install kit. It did not fit(Too big).
