Stopping that annoying door slamming noise?

Is there any way at all to stop the clanking noise when you shut the door? I'm pretty sure at one time on my car when the door closed it was a nice quiet "click"... I want that again. =\

The 3rd gen doors are quite big and heavy. I dont think it ever closed as gracefully as car doors do on newer cars. I know that sagging is a known problem and there are tech articles about fixing sagging doors. That might help you out a little bit, but at the very least, you'll probably never have to bother w/ a sagging door if you fix it now.

taek off your dorr panel and make sure everything in there is secure, if not tighten it up. Adjust the window. If nothign eles no more rattles will come from there.

my door lock rods & stuff were clanking at one time, so I took a little foam and made sure they wouldn't rattle...

just a thought.

My friends '86 Z makes a little click when he closes it! I don't know how, but I'm replacing my passenger's door with a new one becouse sometimes it won't even close. Hopefully when I get the new door, replace the hindges on the body, and add new pins it should stop. The bars that go to the lock being loose doesen't help either.

Also try putting some 3 in 1 oil on the hinges and lock latch. My doors use to creak and crack alot and didnt want to shut eaisly. Now they shut eaiser and quieter, but I still need to get new hinges and pins for the doors to finish things up.

I've had to slam the door on my '86 since new. This is because of the t-top seals. Hardtops seem to have a better time of it. Shouldn't be any rattles though. New bushings and alignment of the striker may make a large difference.

I can probably help with some of your door "issues".

www.3rdgensolutions.com Plus I have added a new 1LE page with lots of good technical modification photos.

Thanx,ANDYZ28
