So last night my brakes decided to give up...
Was going about roughly 80mph on a canyon road and some retards were stopped in the middle of the road scratching their heads and i went to stop with All new raybestos pads semi-metallic, new proportioning valve, and all new calipers,(four wheel discs) and as hard as i can push the petal, it got rock hard and the car just kept going, so i was forced to pass them, and when i got home i noticed the brakes got glazed like cop donuts! And.. it was about 60 degrees out!! None of them locked, or anything. Does anyone have have any ideas why all four pads would glaze that easily? Or anyway i could prevent it? Should i toss these pads? Any advice would be nice, I drive my car extremely hard...

Have to admit, never heard of anything close to this. Are you sure it's glazed pads and not a failed brake booster?

It needs a booster.
If the pads are actually glazed it could be from not braking them in properly or just generally driving the car the way you do, but its probably a combination of both.

could be as simple as a vacuum leak at the booster check valve. Definitely check that before you go through all the effort of changing the booster

Booster? Ok, well if my booster went bad that probably means my master cylinder is leaking into it?...possibly?..I need to check it out...
And no, I'm not sure about it glazing, but it was my first guess because it just felt like i was pushing as hard as i could and it was barely braking. Now it does make sense that the power booster is bad and not assisting me in braking...

It may be that the brakes just faded from too much heat. Driving hard on a canyon road at 80 MPH will do that. The 10.5" rotors just don't give up the heat fast enough.
I've faded the stock brakes in rush hour traffic.

Re: So last night my brakes decided to give up...
personally i wouldn't run anything less than a 12-13 in rotor in mine if i had a choice........... since i don't have that luxury (broke *** college kid). my best investment so far was a carbon metallic pad i purchased from Carquest.
i've ran ceramic pads on mine for about a week (easily glazed and heat cracked), semi metallics, like factory (seemed to hold to the heat, but faded very fast). also have ran the above already mentioned pads all, Carquest brand, the first mentioned is light years better than the other 2 for a higher performance application.
btw i'm not saying the other pad materials are worse for this application, simply stating that in terms of Carquest pads they worked much better.
i've ran other brake pads as well from autozone and advance, but i can't realy share my opinion on those...

Unless you are constantly slamming on the brakes or in like 120* heat, I highly doubt you faded the brakes in rush hour traffic. I autocrossed for a year on the stock iron caliper front and iron drum rear without any brake fade. I've also autocrossed for over a year with 4 wheel iron caliper disk brakes. Never did get any fade. The only time I ever got any fade was when I did 2 (illegal) drag passes on the street and braked as hard as I could at the end just to test the cars braking capabilities. The first was 166 feet from 60mph to 0mph, and the second was 196 feet from 60mph to 0mph.
I cannot believe how many people say the stock brakes are as bad as they are. It just amazes me. I'll admit they are only good for about one panic stop, but people need to stop bashing them. If you want better brakes, install the LS1 stuff. I was able to piece my complete setup together for ~$280 +/- the cost of seals and grease. If you do enough hunting, you can put together a kit for next to nothing. The C5 front kit I pieced together came out to ~$340 (that includes the hubs and spindles from the LS1 setup). In fact, I might have some of the LS1 brake stuff for sale depending on if I trade them for a part I want.

Re: So last night my brakes decided to give up...
well personally if i buy a sport car i tend to drive it to, it's potential..... in other words it takes less than 10 seconds to get to 80mph and these cars are built from factory as a good handling car, so why on earth would i buy a sports car that i can't utilize........ its not much fun in spirited driving to only go slightly fast once then have to wait a minute before you do it again because the uncomfortable massive fade you get from factory brakes.....
as for autox not fading the brakes i can beleive that's true, but it's just because you are going at a much lower rate of speed.
so in essence yes it's true these brakes are adequate for normal stopping, but no they surely are nothing comparable to what a performance minded enthusiast would add.....

And this is in morning rush hour traffic here.
Also note that since then the brakes have been upgraded. With the brakes that should have been factory stock on these cars.

above 60 mph if i hit the brakes they just get firm, they don't stop, it was like that in my 91rs aswell, the brakes are way to small, hondas from the same era that weight 1,000 less have bigger brakes than us, theese cars are by far thew worse stopping vehicles i have ever driven, that has nothng to do with brake fade just a lack of rotor/pad contact area, i couldn't believe the brakes could be so poor from the factory i replaced all componets with new parts and even added ss brake lines tried 2 used boosters and 1 new one, tried like 5 different types of pads, and 2 or 3 sets of rotors, and they still suck *****, i plan on duing the ls1 upgrade

Re: So last night my brakes decided to give up...
i agree with the above as well..... mine are pretty rough if you ask me....... i'll be either going with cadilac calipers and 13.4 inch rotors on mine or a c5 setup.... we'll c but, i know 1 thing i'm not a big fan of how she stops now at all.
