Car: 1986 IROC-Z28
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Stock 4 disk brakes.
I want to redo my stock breaks, including painting the calipers black. Is there anybody that has pics of painted calipers and any tips on what to clean them with and that sort of thing. Is Earls the best for braided and steel brake lines/hoses? Any sugg on what brand/type of pads to use? Also, think I need a new master cyl, should I just get like an Oreilly's or Autozone one? And also, what do you think of the Power Slot brake rotors? Thanks for any answers.

A master from autozone will be fine. It's what I'm using and it works perfect. The SS hoses from Earl's are the best ones I have seen out there. Whatever you do, don't get Russell's! I really can't help you much with powerslots as I have no experience with them, but they look cool. Pads are personal prefernce, I use performance friction metallic available at autozone and they're more than fine for my style of driving. I've never painted a caliper, but I'm sure you'll need high temp paint for it.

Some people were havin problems with he fittings seperating from the lines........while driving! Thats pretty dangerous, so earls were always the better choice. Maybe the Russel lines have had all the kinks worked out, but I'd still buy earls.

Companies such as VHT, POR-15, and Eastwood have paints and coatings for calipers.

Its your choice to what product to use. However; I would not
use Several "THEY" as a source to bad mouth a product. If you want to use "THEM" as your factor in buying a product fine. But don't say it as a FACT. My last Post on this subject.

I painted the brakes on my Cavalier Z24 when i still had it. I was replacing brakes so I avoided the rust thing. I cleaned the drums and calipers with brake cleaner, painted them daytona yellow using engine paint. Then baked them in my wifes oven for about 1 hour per piece at 200 degrees. Don't wiat for the paint to be completely dry before baking. AND DO NOT use an oven you will be eating out of. There was a chemical taste to anything we ate out of that oven for the next 6 months. If you have a garage, buy a used electric oven somewhere and use it for baking parts.

I have both a set of Earl's on my Iroc and a set of front only Russel's on my RS. No problems with either, but I did NOT install the rear Russel brake line on the RS, and I probably won't just because I'm going to a disc rear on that car sometime, and will need new rear lines. I think these rear hoses fail due to people tightening the hell out of them and causing them to break..that's my opinion, not slamming anyone on their installs. They are brass, you know. Still, the line should NOT fail under any circumstances, and Russel should replace the lines that fail or give a pro-rated refund....so you can go out and buy Earl's stuff.
I will only run Earl's on any other projects.
