Baer Brakes...
Ok, I've been looking to upgrade my brakes so I happened to stumble across these: Extreme + $7405 (6 piston Alcon Caliper, 15.00" x 1.25" 2 pc rotor). I know they are a little overkill for me, but I was just wondering what size rim would be needed to clear such massive rotors? Maybe Weld ProStar XP 18x8 (made for increased caliper clearance) or something similar. I don't really care which style rim as long as it would clear. Thanks.

Hey, isn't overkill what it's all about, you know, too much is just enough? I want those damn sexy brakes just like I want a 502 Ramjet, it's all excessive but that just makes it better But seriously, I do have future racing plans for my car and I want to purchase rims now that will fit my future brakes.

Don't worry, once I've got my setup, I'll have pics. But the question still remains, what wheels??? I'm guessing 18s or maybe 19s but I also need backspacing/clearance info. Who has big brakes that might know?

I just put a Baer "Track" system (front) and "Touring" (rear) on my 91 RS.
Am still in the process of seasoning the rotors and bedding the pads, so have not pushed them very hard yet, but the difference is already noticeable.
I wound up using 17" x 9" (7" backspace) 10-spoke camaro wheels, that look pretty sharp and leave plenty of clearance (both inside and out).
If you're looking to determine required wheel size, Baer gives general wheel size guidlines with each system.
If you want to see if a given wheel will fit a specific brake system, Baer has a template (available online or they can fax it to you) that you can use to measure your wheel for clearance.
Remember that those big whopping jobs you're looking at are made for constant and extreme use (though they are beautiful). They need to reach a certain operating temperature for maximum performance (think "film transfer"). Driving them cold and then stomping on them (as can happen in street driving for any number of reasons) will likely lead to cracked rotors or worse.
Good luck with the hunt.
Also- almost forgot to ask: how do you afford your rock and roll life-style? The brakes in question cost a small fortune.

Those binders even cold will put you through the window faster than you can blink, AND, there is no way in hel! you will ever crack those rotors on a street car. It is massive overkill but running at low temps with such large pad surface will stop you just as fast as 12" or 13" rotors and dual piston calipers at hot or high running temp. Does everyone realize the binding pressure of 6 piston calipers? again even if cold they will still stop faster than you need.

You (84_CamaroBC )need 18" Rims!
Overkill ? No
Bla,Bla from other people you need to live with that in big forum like this!
The sig says lg4?! Well they´LL never get hot with that motor unless you "linelock" them.
In the pic a ap front set up(nearly same size of the alcon you wanted), from one of our boys out at the german Star series!
Rimsize is 18"!
If you read our posts you´ll get alot of pics and info!Free!
Tip of the day: if you have someone with "metal-hands" get the Willwood 4th gen set from summit and mod it to your 3rd gen!
You can sell the parts in the kit you don´t need and finance the conversion.
For the rest a nice X-mas!

Ok.. Haven't been here for a while.
88GTA, I should of thought of emailing Baer, they would know now wouldn't they? swerve-driver, I'm sure those thick 2-piece rotors will have no warping or cracking probs, and the money in question is alot for me but I am piecing togeather my car bit-by-bit. german-motorsport, thanks for the pic, and by-the-way the LG4 is only the temporary resident under the hood, 406 SBC is going in eventually.
