4th gen rear disc rotors

i read somewhere not long ago that 4th gen rear rotors will bolt up to my 89 camaro without a problem, thing is, they are different part numbers, and they visually look different. but will that not be a problem?

The rotors should slide right over the studs without any problems. The calipers are going to be your main problem. The rotors are larger diameter which means your going to have to design and build your own caliper mounts.

Why don't you take out the two caliper bolts, pull it out of the way and see if it fits then? I highly doubt it will without fabbing up some brackets or buying aftermarket ones.

I wouldn't buy it then unless you get some solid comfirmaton. I've done brake conversions but not the one you are trying. I didn't know you didn't have the parts on hand. Didn't mention it in your OP. I assumed you did.

Should have said you plan on buying X for Y price. Can it work and is it worth it AND is it better than what you have now. Might have got more bites.

They'll fit, and they should work just fine as well. Someone just asked this question a few days ago and Ed answered with some information. I'm pretty sure its just a direct swap, or at least very close.

Sometimes an easy solution to 'will it fit' questions like this is to find a local parts store that has both in stock and have them put both on the counter side by side. Should be easy to see if they'll work, you don't have to get dirty and they're right there if you want to buy them.

I work at a national parts retailer and went through putting the rotors side by side. The difference is very small as long as you are comparing the pbr set-up to 93+ fbody. The rotor for pbr set-up has more finish machine work done to it. Basically the hat section is fully machined where as 93+ are left rough. There is a different shape to the hats. pbr is machined flat as the 93+ are round. The difference in hat height and overall diameter is very small. The pbr rotors are getting difficult to find and are nearly twice as expensive while the 93+ are common and cheap. I have been running them on my 9bolt for several months now. Ive only recently knocked the crosshatch off the rotors by switching to a 4disc proportioning valve.

Keep in mind 98-03 rotors are way different then 93-97 rotors.

Hmm.. I just finished up my 4th gen rear repaint and purchased new discs for it, 93 TA was the parts purchased. The original rotors look like the rounded 4th gen one's you described.

The new 4th gen one's look like the flat hat 3rd gen one's you described.

These were in stock at O'reilley's for a 4th gen. So looks like manufacturers are either/or and the 3rd gen ones aren't hard to find.

Here's the new "4th gen" rotor..
