1LE Problem

I noticed yesterday that the adapter to spindle bolt head(s) are rubbing on the inside of the driver's side rotor--enough so that spinning the rotor by hand is difficult. The rotor moved freely, however, when I removed the caliper. I cleaned and relubed and the situation improved considerably, but there is still a slight drag. I heard nothing when the rotor spun freely and there didn't seem to be excessive play. WTF?

Are they GM bolts? Just curious. I'd take a file or grind a small bit off the bolt head to get the clearance, ought to do it.

Hey, Ed,

These bolts were a part of Spohn's 1LE kit. You're correct about clearance--wouldn't take much.

Can you slide a thicker washer under the bolt head? That would raise it a bit. I'm not sure which bolts he supplies.

Wouldn't I need a thinner washer to get the bolt head away from the rotor? Or is it that "darn beer" again?

You are right, I was thinking in the other direction. I'd just take a flat file and try to smooth it up a bit or try the thinner washer approach.

I knocked the bolt head down some, but the problem remains: Without the caliper in place there is no interference; stick the caliper on and the rotor comes in contact with the bolt head. Warped rotor?

If the rotors moving around that tells me the bearings are loose, that shouldn't be happening.

With the car up, I tried rocking the wheel back and forth to check bearing play. Nothing noticeable. I'm stumped.

Long story short. I didn't knock enough off the bolt head .

take a little material off the rotor too.So you dont have to remove too much off the bolt head.

This is one that I learned the hard way. Did a trial fit on one side. Everything was fine. Failed to do a trial fit on the other and had this problem.
