Big brake question (Spohn's)
I was wondering if the Pro-series 13" Big Brake Kit Spohn sells is DOT approved. I'll end up emailing him tomorrow to ask, but I figure there may be someone that might know tonight.
I remember seeing a matching rear setup (for the 4th gen I think) that maybe RTFC had used. I looked up that kit today at Summit and it was not DOT approved. To me, I think there would be some kind of issue with insurance maybe. Of course, it would easily fall under the don't tell if they don't ask category.

I doubt it is DOT approved. That recognition definately isn't cheap.

Ummm...no. Wilwood clearly states on the caliper boxes and in other areas that they are race only calipers. Plus I doubt he's had the brackets and hubs tested for that kind of certification. The brake lines are tho....

I believe to be DOT approved, one req. is that the cailpers need to have dust boots. The Wilwoods do not.
The braided hoses included in the kit are DOT approved.

I see. It is strange that the 4th gen wilwood upgrade kits (front) through Summit list as DOT approved. The calipers do not look that different to me.
Would Spohn's kit be recommended for a daily driver or would the 1LE or similar Baer kit be better for that application? The cost difference between these and the Pro-series is not very much and I have heard the praises of fixed calipers over floating ones so I am just wondering.

Get the 13" C4HD or the C5's. They're 90% as good, a fraction of the price, and the parts are a lot cheaper and easier to get (and the basic components are DOT approved)

I can prove in the event of a problem that the kit I bought from Summit was in fact a DOT approved setup- Or at least that was the info protrayed to me when I based my decission purchased it.

I forgot to mention that the main reason I doubt that kit is DOT approved is of the hub. I make them and run them on my own car along with a host of others on the site and elsewhere and have full confidence in them, but I doubt the hub would get the OK from DOT.
