Wilwood brake kit

Anyone have the Dynalite Pro kit, or know about it? 140-2992

I emailed them, they claim a 15# weight reduction per side. How? The factory caliper (that I just weighed) is 7#. I measured a rotor in the past at 18.2#. Thats 25.2 +/- for the whole deal. The bearings and other nonsense should weigh the same. The dynalite calipers are 2.5#, the rotors are 7.4#, the hats are ~2.6# based on the size and material listed, and the hubs should be around 4-4.5# based on other hubs of similar or same design. The lug bolts are 0.5# and there are a few other bolts for the hats I didnt include. So thats 17#, a difference of about 8# per side. So thats 4.5# saved in the caliper and 3.5# likely mostly in the hub and hat vs the factory cast anchor.

Any thoughts, opinions, or info to share???

Re: Wilwood brake kit

Chris, It is a very light duty application recommended for drag race only. The aluminum hub it has is not designed for heavy cornering loads and the .810" thick fronmt rotor is much too light duty for the weight of our cars for any kind of repetive normal stops. THey would overheat very quickly and retain core heat.

I totally realize that. Serves my needs at the moment. However, given the cost and rediculous overrating on their part (or so it seems), I might just reduce my factor of safety to what my calcs came out to earlier today, and alter my stock pieces. Rotors are shot anyway so I cant hurt them.

This'd be the stock rotors on my other car. Vehicle weight will be similar, I have a slightly larger tire but thats about it. I did some numbers and seems the design is fine this way, the factory GM rotors have a 10x safety factor. Seems like a lot of dead weight, to me. The casting is also thinner than the GM, but the brakes are 10x better. Some of that might be the current vehicle weight difference, its significant.

Re: Wilwood brake kit

Well... looks like if I do as planned I've ventured past legal within the rules and I'm at the possibly mercy of whoever techs my car. Not really my idea of a good time. Admittedly, havent had a comment on my crossdrilled rotor nor did anyone look. Yet.

So, anyone have info on this kit? I still cant believe its that much lighter.

Re: Wilwood brake kit

Its only a .81" disc, and 10.75" (did I read that right?). Personaly, I wouldn't run them. But I am a firm beleiver in running BIG brakes.

What is the usage on the car? For a drag strip machine, that every now and again does some grocery runs and cruises, you would probably be fine. I sure as heck wouldn't try to haul my car down on a steep windy road with those though.

Re: Wilwood brake kit

Dragstrip use. I dont drive the car anyway, so not worried about hard use and I will drive it accordingly if it goes to the store.

Yes, those listed are .81 rotors with 10.75 diameter. I know the weight of the rotors themselves (according to them anyway), and the calipers (according to them again), just curious about the hubs and hats. Something doesnt add up. There's nothing to be gained in the bearings, seals, or dust cap and the lug bolts should cancel out. There are also some extra bolts for the hat to hub connection and hat to rotor connection that the factory setup doesnt have. I'm just gonna be mad if I spring for the kit or mix+match and come nowhere near the weight loss for that kinda cost. Its not worth it.

Re: Wilwood brake kit

Was the quote for 15# per side, or 15#, I could see a 7# a side savings by going with an alum. hub/hat, and really light casting of the vanes on the rotor, 15# each side is probably pushing it.

Re: Wilwood brake kit

15 lb per side, thats kinda why I'm

Only .3 lb left for the hub, hat and bolts after you figure the known rotor weight of 7.4 lb and known caliper weight 2.5 lb.
25.2(factory stuff)-7.4(rotor)-2.5(caliper)-15lb=0.3lb

Gonna have to raise the
