Brake kits the same?

I am looking for a brake line kit for my 1987 Trans Am. I swapped to rear disk brakes (Iron caliper) and I am looking for a kit that has five lines. Both fronts, both rears and the rear flex hose T. I found a Russel kit for a 1989-92 that has all five lines. Will a 89-92 brake line kit work with the 87 iron rear calipers? If not, deos anyone know of a part number for a five line brake kit for and 87 with rear disk brakes?

Re: Brake kits the same?

The 89+ kit won't work with the earlier brakes. You want a kit that has 4 lines, not 5. Try Earl's 28A520ERL.

No, your car only has 4 flex lines.

Re: Brake kits the same?

Chose the correct lines from the following (as mentioned, you need four flex lines. One of the rear lines is a hard line):

No, your car only has 4 soft lines total. One on each of the front wheels, one from the axle to the body, and one on the left rear.

Re: Brake kits the same?

Sorry for all ther confusion. I can build an Ls1 but am new to this disk brake swap stuff. LOL Would you happen to a picture of the rear set up?

The way I was told was get the soft line that bolts to the axle. The soft line "Ts" off into two hard bent lines that i will have to bend myself. From the hard lines into soft line to the calipers.

what am I missing?

Re: Brake kits the same?

There's no soft line on the right rear, the hard line connects directly to the caliper.

Is that for pressure purposes?

More likely for cost savings than anything.

Re: Brake kits the same?

So since I want to replace my front lines anyway, should I buy the earl's kit (front and rear lines) and build my rear brake set up off of that?

Re: Brake kits the same?

Are you replacing the hard lines too, or just the soft ones?

Re: Brake kits the same?

The Earl's kit will have the soft lines. You can buy pre-flared hard lines at your local parts store and bend them yourself.

Or buy pre-bent lines from one of the following:

Re: Brake kits the same?

If it's just the lines on the axle itself, I wouldn't bother with pre-bent. If it's the body lines, I wouldn't bother bending them myself.
