Pedal to the floor!!!OH NO I CANT STOP

OK all,

I have replaced almost my whole braking system, new calipers, rotors , pads, master cylinder, lines. Pedal goes to the floor, very unsafe. Bled several times no help. I am going to replace the booster. Anyone have any suggestions other than the booster?

it's obvious you still have air in the system . did you pre-bleed master cylinder ? have you tried a pressure bleeder ? good luck .

Re: Pedal to the floor!!!OH NO I CANT STOP

I had a friend with an 87,
had a bad booster, pedal would go to the floor ( don't know if it actually touched it or not) but to stop it, it did take a whole lot of pressure. It was almost like it didn't have any brakes at all.

um, no

if he had some air in the system it would be spongy and the pedal would pump up. It goes right to the floor, the booster is most likely shot. Or the pushrod came off the pedal.

Re: Pedal to the floor!!!OH NO I CANT STOP

Put in a new booster today.. no help. I should mention this is a drum to disc conversion in back. Starting to think the rear calipers are crap, even though they are new. They are the old style GM Eldorodo caliper from the '80s. The kit came from POL. I am thinking of using EB Millers banjos to switch to PBR. Anyone have any thoughts on this.. Thanks.

you swapped the booster already, the big black thing on the firewall behind the master? wow you work fast. irregardless of the brakes, the pedal should not fall right to the floor. Something is still wrong with the booster/pedal/master assembly

I guess a leak in possible, I will check that. Anyone have any idea if a 1LE master cylinder might help? The only master cylinder with a different part number is the 1LE. I am thinking it moves more fluid for the larger brakes.

Re: Pedal to the floor!!!OH NO I CANT STOP

Does the pedal just drop to the floor with no resistance? Or does it sink quickly like before you bled it. I'd bet on it not being bench bled/vacuum bled and there is still air in the lines. Pick up a mityvac from the autoparts store and you'll wonder how you got along without it. Or try pulling one line at a time out of the master cylinder and capping the hole to see if it's the MC or what wheel is giving you the issue.

I hope I don't come off sounding like a douche but people using the prefix-abbortion 'irregardless' is one of my pet peeves. That's not a word. Regardless is though.
