Swapping rear calipers?????

Hi Guys,

I`ve got a question regarding my rear disc brakes.
Is it possible to swap the rear calipers from a 1984 Z for the newer ones , I believe from 88-up.
Because I hate those E-brakes and every year they`re stuck again when I go for the annual road check.

Thanx in advance
Rene

P.S. or is there a better solution , in other words aftermarket calipers or something????

I replaced my 85 discs in the rear with the later model PBR's. You will need to change the backing caliper mounting plates. Use EB Miller's stuff. Here's the link to his site or search on the brake board for him.http://www.flynbye.com/ is his website.

Re: Swapping rear calipers?????

I need to do this swap as well. I checked out the firelines site and it looks like the part number changed to FRA8901SS (unless I'm wrong). It says you'll need a hose between the caliper and hardline. Doesn't the hard line screw right to the caliper?

The old Delco-Moraines don't require a hose on the driver's side, but the PBR's do--both sides actually. The link above shows PBR lines and calipers. FRA8901SS is stainless; FRA89010M is OE material.

Finelines. I'd about half forgotten. Check my ride out on their home page.

Re: Swapping rear calipers?????

Okay...I know I'm having brainlock....but what the **%# does PBR mean anyway? Thanks for the reply, I'm pretty **** when it comes to rebuilding this car and I want to do it right. I just pulled a rearend from an 84Z w/disk and I'm guessing it's just smarter to upgrade instead of overhauling. This is still the part I'd need though, right?

PBR is simply an alum caliper manufactured by an Aussie company of the same name, IIRC. Yes, smarter in the long run to upgrade. You list the stainless version of the part you'll need. You'll also need the flex lines, of course.

Re: Swapping rear calipers?????

OK guys thanx for the input
So I need backing plates too so there is no easier solution without changing backing plates right?????
Or are there calipers from another car that will fit rightaway or any aftermarket calipers that will fit????
I`m asking this because I`m on the other side of the big pond (Europe) and shipping heavy parts such as brake parts is pretty expensive.

Thanx again
Rene

Nothing out there which's a complete bolt-on replacement that will perform better than OE, at least that I'm aware of.
