better brakes to hold car at higher stall
Hi. I've got an '88 Camaro that I take drag racing at the local track. It's pretty much just a fast street car. My problem is that the brakes won't hold the car in place if I stall it any higher than 1700 or 1800 RPMs. It's got around a 2500 stall and it could easily hook up at 2500+ with the suspension and tires on it. It has stock drum brakes right now and I'm not real sure what brakes I should be looking to upgrade to. It would be nice to get something lighter too, but that's not a requirement. I've got 15" Weld Pro Stars with a 3.5" backspacing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: better brakes to hold car at higher stall
I had a very similar problem with my car although I have a 5000 stall. When I put the car together initially, I removed the power booster and installed Wilwood discs on the rear (Since I switched to a Ford 9" rear) and left the stock front discs and prop valve. With this combo I could only stall the converter up to about 2200.
This year I changed the master cylinder to a strange manual master cylinder with an adaptor plate from Race Craft (pn 330208-K). This is a little pricey but it is a well built unit. At the same time I also added a Jeg's adjustable prop valve.
This new combo works very well. I can now consistently get up to 3800 rpm on the brakes. Hope this helps. I have included a pic of the mc after I installed it.
