Baer Brake Kits

I'm looking for Baer kits for my 89 IROC. I want a nice set of like 13 inchers to upgrade my front system and either a disc conversion kit for the rear of another way to strengthen the rears. Any suggestions as to which kits I should look into?

Hey Paul,
I just made a post about the Baer brakes. I'm looking into the same thing. I will get the 13" Track setup if they fit behind my wheels.

According to everyone, you can only fit the 12" rotors behind the 16" wheels, at least for the stock IROC wheels. So that would be the SS/DRAG kit, with 12" rotors in the front and the back.

Contact the Baer website, and download the wheel template and you can find out what will fit your exact wheel:

From what I've heard, the 13" Baer kit will fit under the 16" IROC wheels, but not the GTA wheels. If the wheels aren't perfectly round, you might have some rubbing; nothing a little grinding on the caliper fins can't take care of. With your 17" wheels, you'll have plenty of clearance with the 13" kit. For those thinking of getting the 12" kit, don't even waste your money on the SS/Drag kit. The rotors are thinner, and I think the 12" Sport kit is about the same price and has much-thicker rotors that can take a lot more heat and have a less chance of warping. For rear discs, Baer a conversion kit for several hundred $$ that includes everything including new e-brake cables.

Anyone know the price of the 13 inch kit? Also do they make a rear disc conversion kit? If so how much?

I paid nearly $1500 for my Track kit with the zinc'd/crossdrilled/slotted rotors. The rear end kit costs another $800ish buck-a-ronees. I've got pix of my install on my site at http://members.nbci.com/scauffiel/index.htm if you're curious to see the comparison between stock and the 13 inchers...

Is the baer kit worth the price? You can install the 1le system for less than 800.00. They both use the same PBR calipers right? IM trying to decide on one of the two. What about replacement rotors? Wouldnt the baer kit be more in that respect?

Making the upgrade to 1LE is definitely more than $800. They tried in on a 91 camaro in the august car craft. For the spindles, rotors, and calipers, they were looking at $2600 from the dealer.

Bill Fong did it on his car. You dont need the spindles **** gulstrand sales a bracket to adapt the larger rotors. Autozone has the calipers and rotors. For alot cheaper than the dealer.

Check out Dans page he has a run down on the specifics. http://www.isthq.com/%7Edan/1LEbrake.html

I'd be in if someone wanted to run a GP. I would run it, but it's too hectic to do it while I'm down at school. Keep us posted.

Guldstrand stopped making those caliper adapter brackets a month ago. Unfortunately I'm in the middle of a 1LE retrofit. I'm prolly gonna just make my own brackets, it doesn't look too hard.

Bill Koppinger (billk2@baer.com) has told me that they currently have no group discounts. Does anyone else know another route?

I personally am thinking of going with some wilwood dynalite billet aluminum 4 piston fronts. Each wilwood caliper is available with multiple mounting points and offsets. I will machine a bracket to mount them to my spindles. Total cost would be something like ~$180 per caliper plus maybe an adjustable porportioning valve, some bolts, and some chromoly plate.
