1LE rear brakes/Spohn LCA bracket interference

In mocking up the 1LE PBR rear calipers I find there is interference with the Spohn LCA relocation brackets. The parking brake lever makes contact with the bracket and it's not possible to install the caliper assembly as it is.
Anyone have similar experiences?
For the record, it's a Dana 44 with the proper backing plate/carrier mount. From what I've read here, whatever works on the OEM 10-bolt for 3rd gens works with the Dana too.
It had previously been installed in an SCCA road racer and there were no relocation brackets on it.
I would to modify the parking brake lever to the point where I would cut halfway through the cable hole.

im not familiar with that parking brake setup, does the level pull toward the control arm bracket, or toward the center of the car (side to side)? If its side to side, i would just lop the back of the LCARB off, box it back in and call it a day

Re: 1LE rear brakes/Spohn LCA bracket interference

I'd thought about modifying the bracket but I'm more inclined to work on the brake lever. It would take a fair chunk of metal removal of the bracket to make room. (Besides it's nicely finished with Chassis Saver Satin Black)
I'm hoping my initial assessment is wrong. The lever works side to side (across the car) so perhaps some trimming of the brake lever (less than I had thought at first) may provide the needed clearence.

can you bend the lever? make it parallel with the back of the LCA bracket?

cutting the back of the bracket off it unsprung weight removal

Re: 1LE rear brakes/Spohn LCA bracket interference

Think I might have it resolved.
There's enough tolerance in the backing plate/axle flange mounting holes that will allow for a slight rotation of the brake assembly away from the bracket.
A 1/4" of material removed from the cable support provides about an 1/8" or so clearence from the bracket. These are my caliper cores I'm working with so I could experiment a little.
Looks like I may be OK.
Thanks for the interest 86.

I had the exact same issue with the LT1 PBRs on my Dana with the Spohn brackets.
After seeing the BMR brackets, I wish I had bought those instead as I think they would have cleared.
I cut out the material from the bracket.

Re: 1LE rear brakes/Spohn LCA bracket interference

I was more inclined to modify the parking brake support rather than the LCA bracket. The brake part is less of a critical element and is certainly easier to replace than the welded on LCA bracket (should the need arise).
Looks like everything will work out here. I just need to find the correct parking brake cables.
I guess that's what hot rodding is all about.

Re: 1LE rear brakes/Spohn LCA bracket interference

I had the same issue w/ the UMI parts. It's a tight fit because I positioned the brackets like that, if one were to do this before checking w/ the caliper you might run into a big problem here
