ima considering the front disc brake upgrade ...
if you were gonna replace the discs calipers pads and hoses ...
how would you do it ? which kit is the best way to go ?
i appreciate yer input on this ...
with mechanics like you all around i canT go wrong
part #s are welcome ... going on my 1991 Z28 5.7
ima going with R15s 17x9.5 so as i investigate i understand that
i can go with C5 front discs ... although ima trying to keep the cost down

You have a lot of options from GM, Wilwood, Baer, and others. A 17" wheel will allow a 13" rotor and a radial caliper without much problem - but measure to make sure!
Thanks PauL ... Looking for the best price for performance ...

LS1 Camaro brakes are the best bang for buck by FARRRRR and can be done under $300. Hell, cheaper than that depending on how mechanical you are.
Ebay is a good place to buy. I did and hooked up a hell of a deal for fronts and rears. Here's a quick search:

yeah for normal street use, you cant beat ls1 brakes price, and performance. If you plan on doing some auto crossing or any thing where you will need to be one the brakes more I would suggest c5. I went with c4 hd's for my car, but that was mainly because they fit the theme of my car otherwise I would have went c5.

We are in the middle of a C4 HD swap on a 92 formula350 right now. Im thinking he has 500$ ish in it.
I like the look of the C4,1LE PBR caliper because it "looks" more period correct than the LS caliper.

I pieced together my front C5/GTO and rear LS1 setup for under a 1k. I have 17" wheels and the brakes fit w/o incident.

does the C4 HD system use a larger rotor? Because i have 1LE's already, looking to just use a larger rotor with the correct caliper brackets to move out the caliper to accept the larger rotor... any info??

Yeah the c4hd uses a 13 inch rotor. The 1le and c4hd calipers are the same minus where the brake line attaches. So you will have to get either the correct calipers or custom brake lines made. But since u already have the 1le setup it should be a cheap upgrade. I believe ed sell the caliper brackets by themself, but don't qoute me on that.Originally Posted by KiLLJ0Y

Ed Miller (flynbye performance) lost his machinist, due to a heart attack. I wonder if he's still going to be taking orders or what the deal is. I tried calling, and the number doesn't work.

I would go LS1... just so cheap and easy to get parts for.
... got an email saying those guys have enough work right now ...
looks like LS1 is the way to go since there aint no other way to go
C5s are too big i wanna run my stock wheels in the winter...
wish i could do the C4s tho ...

If you want a little extra flair to your brakes, you can run the LS1 brackets and carriers and use C5 calipers. They will bolt right up and work on the LS1 rotors from what I understand. Everything lines up, and they will fit under stock 16 inch wheels. C5 calipers with C5 brackets and C5 rotors etc will not fit in stock 16 inch wheels. To fit it in the factory 16's, you HAVE to use LS1 rotors and caliper carriers. But either way, the point is if you just dont want plain jane LS1 calipers, that can be fixed, very easily.
oh hey thanks yea i saw that setup
i was looking for a kit and saw it
wish i could buy it ... still unavailable
unless i want to buy and piece all the parts together ...

why the need for ls1 setup, whats wrong with just getting new hardware for your calipers and some drilled slotted rotors and ceramic, or even carbon pads, you can get all that stuff on summit, order it all together and it will be less then the ls1 upgrade someone said 500 for the ls1 well
two cross drilled slotted rotors from summit 55 a piece 110
hawk performance carbon pads 55
caliper hardware kit from autozone 5 bucks, get two and its 10
new bolts/ guide pins 18 dollars for all 4 that you need
if necessary two new calipers 28 dollars
add in some of the cerami glyde goop and your still only in it for like 230 bucks and most of your parts are LIFETIME WARRANTIED, if it brakes, ya get new ones.....FREEEEEE
anyways just my 2 cents

I agree, in my thirdgen when it comes time to replace brakes I just have the pads changed for new duralast gold ones, but if I eat to have better overall performance brakes I'd just get Hawks pads & Drilled & Slotted rotorsOriginally Posted by kmcn47

Need? No need. However, many hobbyists simply want significantly better stopping power, which means a system with larger rotors and multi-piston calipers (vs. the OE 10.5" rotors and single-piston iron Delco-Moraine calipers).Originally Posted by kmcn47

i understand that but i've never had a problem with my stock brakes, and yes i have street raced and not experienced brake fade, i get using ls1 brakes if you were into autocross or drove the car hard regularly but for a dd or a weekend toy the stock ones are fine, if your brakes arent fine then you need to check everything out, just saying

.As someone who's run the old J65 system and switched to a newer (1LE) system, I can honestly say that I'd never consider a return to the old. That said, each to his own.

I agree with James, anything is better than what's on the car now. And with the current prices to swap to ls1 bits, unless the car see's track time that setup is about the best thing going.
Cheers!

I've faded the stock factory cast iron brakes in rush hour traffic. And by stock, I mean stock: rotors, calipers, pads, lines. For some odd reason those brakes are no longer on the car.
