The 9- and 10-bolt share the same rotors, pads, calipers.

To answer the rest of your questions. The OE master will function fine. For the 86 J65 set-up, you need the standard disc combination valve for, say, an 84 to 88 car.

Re: 9 bolt brakes and ls1 master

I'm not sure what brakes you're discussing. All 82-88 rear disc cars have 10.5" rotors and iron Delco-Moraine calipers--whether they're on a 9- or 10-bolt. The front and rear calipers look the same.

89-92 rear disc cars have 11.7" rotors and alum PBR calipers--whether they're on a 9- or 10-bolt. In these years the rear brakes are larger than the fronts unless the fronts are 1LE. Rotors/calipers may be called the 1LE or the performance package for this application.

Re: 9 bolt brakes and ls1 master

The rear end I was told it was from a 86 trans am my car is a 87 got it with the car I took the pads off ad took it to them and no luck the caliper looks diff than the front the pads are bigger that the 10 bolt pads they pulled well I work at that parts store now and I will take it off 1 day and run threw the system sure the was just over looked glad they are the "same" so I can run better pads and rotors I was gonna do a 4th gen built 10 swap but ppl say the 9bolt 7.75 ring is better than the 7.62 even if built thanks guys

Re: 9 bolt brakes and ls1 master

Are your real calipers aluminum.with fins or are they iron and look like the fronts?. If they are aluminum, they are the later brakes, so the axle is new than you were told.

The 9 bolt is a bit stronger, but parts are more expensive and hard to .find

Re: 9 bolt brakes and ls1 master

Sojer, i know what you mean. i used to have an '87 IROC and the rear pads where the same as the front. same part number and everything. since the parts stores had issues with it, i just got to the point i went in and got 2 sets of front pads. the rear was a 9 bolt as well.
