Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

flynbye's customer service has been absoultely horrifying lately. Do a search on Ed Miller and see how many people have had to wait for months on end for their parts. Ed has a good product and it used to be a good place to buy, but not anymore. I can't vouch for bigbrakeupgrade, I'm just saying not to do business with flynbye...

Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

The shopping cart on Ed's site was closed for a while, allowing him apparently to catch up on back orders. I note today that the cart is open again.

Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

I suspect that if you're buying full kits from Ed, you'll wait a while. I ordered the rear PBR swap brackets from him, and it took about a month. Which isn't too bad. I couldn't get him on the phone, but he did respond to my emails. I just took the plunge and ordered online, and then contacted his email via paypal. Overall pretty happy with Ed.

I've heard great things about Scott at bigbrakeupgrade.com, but have not used him personally.

A third option is maybe to contact a member here by the name jakeb. He made custom hubs and brackets for me for my C4HD front conversion, and he was great to deal with.

Soooo true... I'm waiting since 2 months and got only one reaction of Tara/Ed and heard nothing more since then. Of Course their reply was withing the 45 days grace period where you could react with paypal to get your money back. Now it's to late. I sent $1500 to him IN ADVANCE and they couldn't write me a 2min email message with an update? I'm very disapointed about that. His offer was just to good especially if you were a guy like me sitting in the heart of europe, thousands of miles away. I wish I would have done the parts gathering with Rockauto. All parts I have ordered were delivered within 9 days from ordering to getting it delivered by fedex. Thats fast and reliable..... I don't know what to do. I already tried to call them but only get the machine answering it.

Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

Scott @bigbrakeupgrade hands down. He was a pleasure to deal with. Emailed him day or night and received a response in a few hours at the longest. From me sending and receiving my parts back took maybe a week.

Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

I got my LS1 brake parts from Scott at BBU. Had my parts 2 days later.

Even Scott will come in and tell you that he doesnt do nearly the volume Ed does, and the fact that he's so far behind (and has been for a few years at least) is a testament to how well he's built up his business. Ed's a good guy who's always willing to research and help and create products for us, and Im grateful for that. But it's just not fair to customers to make them wait months at a time.

Unless you want a specific brake package that only Ed carries, I really recommend going with Scott at bigbrake upgrade. Great customer service and great product.

Re: flynbye or bigbrakeupgrade?

Does anyone know of any other places besides Ed that sells all the replacement hard lines as well as the custom braided lines that Ed has? Id like to replace all the brake lines on my car but Scott doesnt carry or list a lot of the braided lines I need. I want to order from the least amount of vendors as possible to help reduce shipping cost. I also plan on ordering the complete C5 front brake upgrade kit from one of them too. I am not in a rush to do it which is why ordering from Ed isnt a bad thing but I dont want to wait for months on end for it either. I have an LT1 disc rear in my 91 Z which used to have drums.

Could get in touch with Denny at thirdgenranch.com. He has hard lines and is good to deal with. Also the usual places like Finelines.com will have them too. If you get the for a PBR rear I'd say they'd work with LT1 brakes as well. As for the braided lines, I'm not sure who else would carry them.

Good choice. Flynbye may have been good in the past but the stories are true. I called 4 times in a 2 week period and was personally promised a call back twice that i would get called back that night by his wife. Nothing. Im sorry I dont buy into he that" we should all be happy we have someone making thirdgen parts" coolaid and we should just be paitence and wait until the end of time for responses or service or parts we paid for god forbid. Bigbrake upgrade always returned my emails and quick and turnaround time is 100x that of flynbye. If you plan on finishing your brakes by this summer call bigbrakeupgrade. If you got nothing to do and like to watch paint dry and stand around with your hands in your pocket wondering if youll get your parts this year sometime after you already sent payment call flynbye.

For hardlines you have finelines, classic tube, inline tube. Classic tube makes the black lines flynbye sells. Hawks sells these to. Goodridge sells the steel braided ones. I have them on my car. Nice set. I have classic tube hard lines as well. Fitment is ok not like the inline tube ones but inline tube doesnt use ss nuts so they will rust. I have a set of rear lines if you are looking in my garage. Nuts just have to be cleaned up. One thing to remember though. And this is #1 important if you plan on getting ss hardlines. You will need a new prop and master cylinder. Old bores with the old seats will not seal no matter what anyone here tells you. I got a new prop from rock auto and a cardone master aluminum new. I have j65 brakes. Im a strong guy and eons ago when I had inline tube lines on the car I about rounded the heads of the nuts trying to seat the lines. And guess what they never stopped leaking. If you plan on using regular steel you will be fine. btw see your in westport too looking for some parts as well maybe you have some. Your welcome to come see the lines for yourself if you want. Lmk.
