Upgrading brakes using 15" prostars

I have 15"x7" prostars on the front.
I would like to upgrade my brakes to give me more stopping power and, most of all, weigh less than the stock brakes.

From searching, my options are the 1LE and the C4 kits.

Being I have a 1991, how much weight would I expect to lose with the 1LE or the C4 kit?

Or would I be better to just buy a vented rotors and new calipers?

I highly doubt either will be lighter than OEM. Certainly both will have higher rotational inertia.

Also, both will actually have less torque than OEM.

Is this for drag only?

Also, OEM rotors are vented, so no need to replace rotors for that.

It is for street/strip.

So is there a caliper or rotor to fit the OEM that is much lighter?

Something like this would likely be lighter.

http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Bra...sc+Brake+Rear.

They have the same torque as stock, but are aluminum.

Since you would like to retain street duty, I would not recommend any of the drag kits.

Something like this would also likely be a good bit lighter than OEM.

However I am not a big fan of those calipers on the front of our cars.

Would this
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...t/model/camaro

or this

be the same as the wilwoods?

Summit says their caliper is 8.1lbs, so what would a stock caliper weigh?

Wilwood makes a bolt on single piston caliper like that. But if you want to loose some weight i would upgrade to a street/strip set up like these from aerospace components. I have used there drag racing brakes on my car. Wilwood also make brake packages for these cars

At 8.1lbs I doubt they are lighter than stock. Seriously though, I expect those to weigh less than 8lbs.

Either way, those calipers product less torque and a shorter pedal than stock. Is that what you want?

Yup, I linked to it above.

I wouldn't bother with that kit. Sure they may statically be lighter than OEM, but they will have a lot more inertia due to the larger diameter. Ever watch a professional ice skater?
