Hi, I have stock disc up front and I have 91 rear disc PBR calipers, I am looking for new pads, front and rear would like a nice pad for street and track, Good street manners are a plus.

I run hawk pads, on my daily drivers, the yellow pads, what model are you running?

I'm running Stillen D-154HD and D-413HD pads. I used to run the Hawk HPS pads.

 

Did you like the HPS Pads, there the ones I am thinking of using.

 

The HPS are a bit better than stock. But they dust like crazy. (A nuisance with GTA wheels)..... The Stillen pads have a wider range of stopping and dust less. I prefer the Stillen pads.

 

Where do you get the stillen?

 

If you want a better pad you'd take Reids advice. Stillen metalMatrix pads are far better than HPS. Plus they actually cost less becasue you are not paying for marketing hype and advertisment. It just that hardly anyone know about Stillen- it is Steve Millen racing

10.5" Delco Morraine = D-154HD

11.6" rear PBR = D-413HD
11.6" front PBR (1LE) = D-412HD

Their website is a bit weird. It seems to be hard to find the D-413HD rear pads from their year/model choices. You might need to call/email them for those. I had to select cars from different years to order the D-154HD and D-413HD pads online.

My 1989 car is the 10.5" front and 11.6" rear brakes.

 

I am having a hard time with there site, I can't seem to locate the rear pads even using the part number you gave me. I'll have to give them a call.

You guys are saying the Stillen are better, How much better would I be making a mistake going with the hawks? I want a good pedal feel and good stopping power.
Dust is not a huge issue but I do want them to be quite.

How are the Bear or Willwood pads?

Right now I have Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads on the front and a set of VGX Graphite pads in the rear, I don't like the pedal feel ( Feels like wood ) or the Power of the stop, I want to go with a nice matched set.

As for part #'s Reid gave you the applications. you either have 10.5" rotors or you have the larger 1LE brakes. measure the rotors if you don't know what you have

 

I found the front pads, I can't find the rear pads Yes I have the larger PBR rear set up, I can't seem to get the site to pull up the part Number, ill have to call them. They have nice feel?

Your saying the Perf Friction Pads are complete junk? I only have about 50 miles on them and Hate them.

But SlickTrackGod is right. I pondered Hawk HPS vs Hawk Ceramic back in the day. The general consensus is that the HPS stops better but dusts a lot. The Ceramic stops a bit worse but dusts less.......But the HPS dusts a lot. I can't even imagine what their next step up (HP+) is like in terms of dusting. The HPS are probably alright for IROC wheel people. But they're frustrating for GTA wheel people like myself.

The Stillen pads on the other hand give you everything while giving up nothing. They work great when cold, they work great when hot, they don't dust, and they're quiet. They also have an excellent feel to them. And top of everything else, they're cheap. I immediately started looking into are they available for my wife's vehicle as well as my parent's vehicles.

You should have no problems at all running them at the track.

Black Z, you are correct about not being able to find the D-413HD rear pads on their site. I actually sent Stillen an email a few hours ago telling them to get their act together on their site. For example, looking up a 1987 car, they have the correct D-154HD listed for front and rear. This is good and correct. But looking up a 1989 Firebird (me) they only list the D-412HD (1LE front)......My car does not have these pads. Choosing a 1989 Camaro from their site has the same problem. Only the 1LE front is listed.

Looking up a 92 Firebird, they show nothing at all. While a 92 Camaro, they show the front 1LE only. Yet all 1989-92 cars came with the same brakes (10.5" front and 11.6" rear) except for the full 1LE cars. (11.6" front and rear)

So until they fix their website, it looks like you'll need to phone them up.

 

Are the front non 1LE car pads different on a 89-92 vs the earlier cars?

Like I said I'll Prob go with the stillen pads, My friend used to run them on his Nissan I always just thought of Stillen as a Import Brand.

Interesting advices here. How would you guys compare the Hawk HPS or the mystically awesome Stillen pads to EBC RedStuff? I got them on the rears Delco-Moraines now and will be putting some on for the fronts soon. Think they increased grab by quite a good amount and not too much dust. Expecting to see bigger gains from the installation up front of course tho.

 

I have mine but haven't got the car out yet so I can not speak of them yet, I do know that they were a pain to deal with, SHipping was all messed up and they screwed the order up also.

 

I like EBC pads.
Their Ultimax pads are a nice oe pad replacement, they have a little more bite.
Their Redstuff pads are a nice ceramic low dust pad for high performance street.

 

I also have taken Deans advice on the stillen pads .... You can tell the difference from stock
And I am happy with them.. I did take it a step further by buying Stillen rear rotors and Goodridge brake lines, and napa premium front rotors

I already have Drilled and slot rotors front and rear, Also have Braided Stainless lines all around. Pad's are on car, havn't tried them yet.

 

I have had the chance to check out the Stillen Pads on my car, I must say they are smooth quiet and appear to work quite well so far, I have them front and rear and there is a huge difference between them and the Performance Friction pads I had on the car.

Pedal feels good most of the time, once in a while in feels a bit soft, But that is not from the pads.
