89-97 Rear Caliper Brackets

Anyone use 93-97 brackets on a 89-92? They appear to be the same - but GM lists them as different part numbers.

GM went to a cast iron bracket in 93 or so

So what was the 89-92 "1LE" caliper bracket?

Re: 89-97 Rear Caliper Brackets

There were 2 designs. The early 89 bracket was a 2piece part with a small stamped steel center and a dust shield.
The late 89 2nd design is a little larger stamped steel 1 piece design (no dust shield) that was brought in to help stop brake moan with light pedal pressure while backing up.

Re: 89-97 Rear Caliper Brackets

So the 89-92 is stamped (or forged) steel - whereas the 93-97 is cast?

Re: 89-97 Rear Caliper Brackets

But is one "superior"?

The 89-92 1LE bracket p/n was also used on the C4 until 96. The 93-97 LT1 is a different p/n. But both look the same except the LT1 has numbers "cast" in.

Depends on what you want it to be superior at?

Re: 89-97 Rear Caliper Brackets

Well - I think I found the answer - the 1LE and C4 bracket has a zinc phosphate coating (black) and the LT1 is zinc (silver).

Are you talking about the caliper carrier bracket or the mounting bracket? Think we may be talking about 2 differe5 things.

The "pad abutment bracket" (caliper carrier) where the pads go, and the caliper guide pins insert.
