Line Lock/Roll Control Question
For those of you with a line lock...did you find it raised the overall foot brake stall?
I've got a 10" TCI converter and although it appears to have a flash stall in excess of 3000 rpm (dyno video shows close to 4000 but that's deceiving) however when staging at the drag strip, I can't get much more than 2000 rpm before I start to push the car through the beams. The front tires aren't skidding, there's just not enough brake force being applied.
My thinking is that if I apply the line lock when engine vacuum is highest, (I've got power brakes) then there'll be more line pressure and probably more clamping force on the rotors.
It makes sense to me but I'm not sure if that's the case.

A line lock isn't made to hold the car on the line, only for a burnout.

Re: Line Lock/Roll Control Question
My thinking is that it could do both. I don't see why not. All you're doing in the beams is holding the car stationary with the brake pedal. Couldn't the line lock accomplish the same thing? My intention isn't to hold the gas pedal to the floor, but just enough throttle so I can see maximum foot brake rpms. When I'm staging, I'm seeing about 8" of vacuum which isn't much when it comes to working the brake booster. If I could bring up the revs after my burnout and raise the vacuum levels to the booster and then work the line lock, to me that would result in an overall increase in pressure to the front brakes and prevent the rolling.

Re: Line Lock/Roll Control Question
It only holds the front tires. Without the rear brakes on the car wants to move, ask my brother in law......it doesn't work that way, of which he thought it did.

Line lock for tire melting burnouts
Transbrake is for holding the car on the line.

Re: Line Lock/Roll Control Question
My thinking is that if there was a way to completely LOCK the front tires, then how likely is it that the car would push through the beams? I can't recall being able to push the car with front tires skidding. Then again, maybe that's the case.

As for the transbrake, I'd like to have one. I figure that's my ticket to a better 60' time as long as I can get the rear tires to plant. (I need new slicks). Not sure if that'll a part of the new transmission when my current unit finally gives up.

Re: Line Lock/Roll Control Question
The line lock also helps save the rear brakes, esp if you have expensive 13" rear disc like I do

Re: Line Lock/Roll Control Question
I've thought about that too. One of the guys in our crew has deliberatley kept his drum brakes even though the disc option is there. On track days, just turn the adjusters back and the rears are basically out of the picture. As for me, I've got the PBR rears that I swapped in when I did the Dana. Pads are cheap although I've never worked out the brake bias so the amount my rear brakes are active is pretty small. I doubt they provide much in terms of resistance when I'm doing a burnout. That's something I'll be working on this year considering the road course is just down the road from my new place.
As for the line lock, I'm not sure if it'll help my stall speed or not. I suppose I could get the results I'm looking for, that is an increase in the brake clamping force, by modulating the gas and brake pedal while getting the booster working to it's maximum.
