Ever since I did my restoration on my 84 trans Am I've been wanting better front brakes so I started by upgrading my factory 15s to 16 inch wheels that I got from a firebird GTA. I stripped all the silver paint off them and use the dual action sander to get the faces looking close to factory 84 then I painted the insides to match my old rims.
I got the pads rotors and calipers from RockAuto as a kit they are from a 2000 Camaro SS V8. I also needed new caliper banjo bolts they came from RockAuto
The caliper relocation brackets I got from this site I got the flush mount option it makes life much easier. https://bigbrakeupgrade.com/product-category/1982-92-camaro/](https://bigbrakeupgrade.com/product-category/1982-92-camaro/ The hubs were machined factory rotors a friend that did them for free. I also give them a coating of high temp paint
I used Dorman 610-323 M12-1.50 studs the knurled diameter with almost exactly the same as the studs I took out of the old rotors Then I modified my factory spindles according to this website https://lukeskaff.com/projects/car/third-gen-f-body-brake-upgrade/spindle-modification/ I was able to reuse the factory brake lines Here's a picture of my finished project
Excellent mod, and well worth the money. I've done it twice now. ......building a third, and it's a non IROC, Z28, with 15" wheels. REALLY want the brakes, and REALLY want to keep the wheels. Not sure which will win. Probably the wheels, but who knows! Anyhow, you're gonna love 'em.
Id recommend also upgrading to the steel braided flex lines. this increased pedal response and feel, now you need to upgrade the rear to ls1 brakes and have a much better braking system all around with parts more readily available.
Took the first test drive no issues I went nice and easy on it. I didn't slam the brakes I'm giving them time to mate properly but my initial feel is they are quite a bit better I'm very excited. Hopefully in about 2 weeks I'll be back to driving in almost daily
