Another sub question

Well, I got my amp now, it is a Rockford 500@2, so now i am looking for subs. I have done many searches, but i can't seem to find the right info. I bought another amp for the 6x9's that was unexpected, so now i only have $150 left over for sub(s). I have brought it down to three different ones, Alpine type-r, rockford punch hx2, or JL w3. I know there are mixed reviews on these as to what one is best, I have found durring my searches, but what would give me the most bass/sq for just one sub? Would i get more bass/sq if i got two cheaper subs like two JL w0's, or just one nice one, like a type-r? One or two subs? I was thinking that if i got one of the nicer subs i could get another one once i get more money, if i needed more bass. But what do you think?

Stay loyal to rockford. Especially if you are going to have the amp mounted where you can see it. Like you said buy the best single sub you can afford, then if that isn't enough Bass for you just buy another one when the money comes around.

I say get the Alpine Type-R. It has better SQ than the Rockford and can still bump good. You can get it for about $130 if you shop around. I like Rockfords but I think they lack the SQ that Alpines and JL's have. The JL 12W3 is nice but it is around $200.

the type-r is one of the best sq sounding subs for its price. it has comperable sq to the infinity perfects (around $250-300 each) and can hit much harder. the rf is nowhere near as accurate sq wize, and while the jl can sound just as nice, i dont think it as well rounded. i got my type-r for $130 shipped from www.ikesound.com. the type r says 300 watts rms, and while i was maybe maxing out at 300, it still shoke my car when necessary. just bought a new amp and at almost 3x the power, i dont know what i'm gonna do......

Alright, here is another question for you, what would be better, two 10s, or one 12? For bass and sq.

2 10's offer more cone area than a single 12", so theoretically they should be louder.

It depends on what you listen too. My friend has one 12 and he listens to rap that has thick long bass. If you listen to rock or techno tens are better cus they are more of a thump...and give type of sub.
My 2 tens are louder than his 12 by the way

if you were to use the same amp and the same models of 10s and 12s, the 2 10s should be louder due to more cone area. the single 12 will however play lower. the idea of bigger = slower is a misconception (if the cone moved slower, it would produce a different note). i tend to stick to 12s myself, and the single 12 does more than enough for me. seeing that the difference in price between a type-r 10 and 12 is only like $10-20, i stuck with a single 12.

Where is the cheapest place to get a JL W3, or a Alpine Type-r? Those are the two i have it narrowed down to.

ebay. Just go with people who have a lot of feedback (1000+). Most online retailers no longer carry JL stuff since JL is seriously cracking down on unauthorized dealers selling their stuff.

I have been looking on e-Bay, and at least the Alpine subs go for more than what they are new through some of the aforementioned audio stores

As mentioned in another post I'm running a single 10W-0 right now with 200 watts and it sounds great. Their only $100 each from an authorized dealer.

Forget about using the same brand just so it looks good. Who cares how it looks!? Go listen to all of them and buy the one you like the sound of the most.

i see no point in brand loyalty except if you're sponsored. get what works. i assure you, you wont be let down by the type-r's.
