Kicker L7 10" or Rockford HX2c 12"

Well i got some extra cash and am torn between these two subs.

The kicker L7 is the square one.

I am wondering which to go with because they will both cost about the same and i will buy the same amp to push them a RF bd 500.

So what are your opinions on these??

A lot of the guys have problems with their L7's dieing on them, a local shop sent out 32, 29 of them came back...

Some guys will stand by them like there is no tomorrow though...

Square sub - 137 stress points
Round sub - 6 stress points

Id go Rockford...

Sounds like a store somehwere needs a class on 'installation'....I would really like to see the dealers name on that one!

The L7 will have the cone advantage, and power handling ability. But, they like ported boxes. The L7 has no more 'stress points' over any other design. If anything is designed properly, they will perform just fine. Many have put thousdands of watts to L7 with no damage, but for someone to have got 29 back, they need a class on 'installation', and if this is true, I could see the 'real' numbers he has returned......

It will come down to install...the return rate on them is lower than most 'common used' woofers out there.
The problem with most installs is poor box design, or over powering them without the use of a sub-sonic filter used on ported applications.
Michael Hughes is putting 3000 watts to stock L7 10's and hit over a 175.4 db, and did four shows before he blew the first one.

Install is key.

I have an L5 10" with a Punch 500.2 pushing it and I love it. It hits loooooow without listening to even rap. That sub seems to love Eminem. I don't have the gain turned up more than 1/2 - 2/3 of the way and it pounds. Also, my brother and I built the box for it. We made it the max size recommended by Kicker, which is 1 cubic foot. It's a sealed box as well.

The reason I don't have the gain turned up is 1) I don't want everyone knowing I have a system. 2) I have it tuned in with my mids and I like quality over quantity.

I've only had the sub bottom out on me one time and that was when it was cranked listening to heavy bass rap.

Just my $.02

Have you had that L5 10" tested on a dB meter? My friend is installing 3 8" in a custom sealed box.

Go with the L7 it is a much better sub than the rf. Kicker has a much better product than RF. Just make sure its installed correctly and you wont have any problems.

Hey Klayburn do u have any more working RF, last i knew they all are fuzzed??????

ive heard both speakers and had a 15" RF HX2 myself, it sounded great and pounded hard but when u push more watts then supose to then i guess thats y i blew, as for the kicker i have not had one personally but they sound great, and can handle some watts themself, as for which is better i cant say, but i would be willing to try a kicker L7 and see what it can do.

what he said

of course you're going to hear "well i know someone who did this" or "my cousins stepfathers, next door neighbor blew one up" blah blah blah, you have to consider how much power was being run through it and if the sub was installed in the correct box

The L7 gets my vote...
