Do I need an amp?
Will I need an amp to power two 4x6 and two 6x9 speakers, and what would be a good 6x9 to get that isn't awfully expensive, im buying an older(bout 2 years) Panasonic deck from a friend and im not sure of the model or specs and such.
I'm new to the car audio world, and thanks for any help.

you dont "need" an amp, your deck can power the front and rear speakers.. however, it wont be loud, and it wont be particularly clean either.. so you may awnt to consider amplifying the speakers. some cheap yet very nice speakers are infinities, you can get 4x6 and 6x9, or pick up some of rezn8r's kick panels and get a component set.. as for amplification, alpine makes great amps.. what kind of price range are you going for? looking to add a subwoofer?

Okay, so ill put an amp in(I need clear loud sound) and yes I would like to add subs eventually. Im looking to spend no more than about $500 Canadian if its possible with the subs. I have a deck lined up already so that would be $500 for 6x9's, amp, and subs.
I already have a pair of JBL GTO462 4x6's. Are these any good? They were in a parts car I got, they're not blown up either.
Thanks

I would suggest 2-10's and a 100-150x2 amp for them. That and the 6x9's should be possible for around $500 Canadian if you stay in the Rockford, Kicker, MTX price range. Don't forget to account for wiring, install(?) and sub enclosure though.

The thing to look for is HOW the RMS power is determined.
A lot of the cheaper brands (Rockwood is one
) use the
"1K Hz @ .5% THD" method.
If you listen to Howard Stern all the time then that's great. The average human voice is around 1K Hz. As if Howard isn't loud already!!!
When you spend $$ on an amp like an Alpine, Rockford, (not Rockwood), Kicker, etc., then they rate there RMS like this
"20Hz - 20K @ .05%THD", or some use ".01%THD"
20Hz - 20K Hz is the full audio spectrum for the average human. And the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is very important. Anything .1% or higher is high enough for the human ear to detect. IE, you're hearing it destroy your speakers.
Just remeber if you think your saving a lot of money on a cheaper amp with "just as much power", then you'll spend more money on speakers you're gonna replace later on if you like it LOUD!!!
