hey guys looking at buying some subs, i have a box that i have made for my camaro, that will hold three 12's with about .75 per each. I am looking at the Cerwin vega HED 12's but i was wondering if they are really any good, or if the autotek SS 12's would be a better choice?

The best thing you can do is listen to them and decide for yourself. Sound quality is very subjective.

The two wires that are on the back of the cone can touch together and fry you whole system. I fried an amp and one speaker. They might last for a while but when you decide to really make them move those wires will touch and you will be on this board telling the same story I am. Now dont get me wrong Cerwin Vegas are bad *** but these speakers were a big mistake they made. They are lowest quality speakers that they make! Get the Try another model if you have to get Cerwins but those speakers <h3><font color=red> suck!

Dont get me wrong I Belive Cerwin Still knows what they are doing. If you bu the cheap **** you get what you get.
These look nice though. Just make sure those wires cant touch.

ya, but how much space do the vega 124's reguire? its like 2.5 feet a piece isnt it? is there any way that i could fit 2 into my hatch well? I mean i know that i can build a box, but is it possible to get 5 cubic feet out of my hatch?

The only way you could get 5 cu.ft. would be to build a box all the way to the back of your back seats and probably almost as high as you can go before you hit the glass. Really though, just for 2 Vega's, I don't think that amount of space is worth it. But, do what you want to do, lol...I'm runnin' 2 DD 10's and it slams!!! shakes everything in the car and then some.

For that enclosure space I might check out some JL's. Keep in mind that the sub will take up space and will reduce your enclosure space. Whatever you decide make sure the sub will work in your box. You might listen to one in a show room that will sound great in 1.5 cubic feet but slap it in .75 and it might not do so well.

dont most subwoofer box sizes account for driver displacement? i know infinity compensates for it...

I would still consider it. If you have a enclosure with 1.0 cubic feet of internal volume you will need to subtract for woofer displacment based on what the manufacture of the the woofer tells you. 1.0 will be reduced differently for different woofers.

All I'm saying is that if a builder of a box tells you it is 1.0 it probably doesn't compensate for woofer displacment.

maybe i misunderstand you.. but.. what im saying is that, for infinity subs at least, if they say you need one cubic foot of airspace, you build a 12x12x12 (inner dimensions) enclosure and thats what they recommend. in doing their calculations, they have already figured in the displacement of the physical driver.. so say the driver takes up 400 cubic inches, you dont need to add 400 cubic inches to your enclosure size, you just use what they tell you.. i dont know how to explain it any better, but the driver is already figured in to the recommended box size...

With that much space, of course depending on power, look at the Adire lineup.

went and looked at the adire brahma, one of those would be plenty for me, maybe i should sell my box, and get one brahma. Who makes a 1600 watt RMS amp to power it though?

I can get 2 12" DD 3500 Series for $300. In the proper box, and 400-500 watts going to each, in the hatchback of a third gen, they will hit in the upper 140's - lower 150's db's.

an excellent amp for the brahma is the jbl bp1200.1... actual output is nearly 1400 watts, which is great for the brahma.. not going to find anything close to that power output for under 300, which the jbl amp is... distortion is a bit high, but still under the perceptable range.. should sound awesome
