Cooling fan for amp!

I bought a small blower fan to hook to my Rockford 300x amp to help keep it cool. How do I wire it up? To the power wire on the amp or the remote wire, or will I have to run a seperate wire tapped into the cig lighter or something. Any help appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!!

you're going to want it on only when the amp is running.. so the remote wire is a good choice.. but it depends a lot on the current draw of the fan. you could wire the fan in to the remote wire through a relay, which would be the safest way, and the most convenient... otherwise you're gonna have to run a larger wire from somewhere up front

You will want to either run the remote wire to a relay to turn on the fan, or wire the fans through a switch somewhere. Most decks' remote wire is just to send a 12v+ signal to the amp so they turn on, it is very low amp(like .1amps). A fan or two may damage the deck if you run a fan off the remote.

I wired the fan to a relay with a fused wire going to the battery and the remote wire to turn it on only when the amp is on. Works really good the amp is alot cooler now. Have not had a problem with the amp shutting down since installing the fan. Thanks for the replies guys!!

I'm a little unfamiliar with this setup... how does the relay work and how would the wiring look physically? any diagrams?

you need a normally open (NO) relay capable of handling however much current your fan takes.. most likely no more than 1 amp.. and probably some 16 gauge wire..

run +12v to terminal 30 of the relay, ground terminal 86, run your remote lead to terminal 85 and connect the positive wire of your fan to terminal 87
