Orion 250-HCCA

Can anyone tell me anything about this amp? I got one for free. It has 2 8 gauge wires coming out, one power, one ground, plus another little wire coming out of the ground hole that is like 16 gauge or so. It also has a plug coming out that has 4 wires, one orange, one yellow, and two black.
This amp is a few years old, but could be older.
Thanks!
Douglas

I believe the little wire(16 gauge) you are talking about is going to be the remote turn on wire. It turns the amp on with the head unit, this amp has speaker level inputs, which are what the 4 colored ones are. I would assume that the orange and yellows are positve and the black is negative. If the order goes (orange black) (yellow black) than one set is your left and one is your right. There should also be mounts for wires that go to the speakers the amp is driving. If you cave a picture it would be easier to help and I could label stuff for ya

Ok, having looked at the pictures I realize I made some errors in my previous post. The second picture shows the inputs(left and right RCAs) I would guess that that the part in the middle is the speaker level inputs, but you dont have the adaptor for that so just use RCAs. Black is obviously the ground and red is the power for the amp. I still think that the other black wires is for a turn on switch, although usually they are seperate from the ground, try it and see, it wont hurt anything. The Yellow and Orange and black wires are your amplified speaker outs. The yellow(+) and the black with the yellow(-) stripes is most likely the left channel. The Orange(+) and the black with the orange stripe(-) is the right channel. It is an iteresting way of doing it, most amps dont have the wires coming out of it they have jacks for you to screw wires into. Hope this helps

The four wires in the black connector are the speaker outputs. The round thing between the rca jacks is a DIN input. If your head unit is Badass enough to have one (a DIN out, that is) -use it. It will provide a better signal to the amp. Sometimes it also carries the remote turn on lead in it as well. The small 16 guage wire next to the ground wire is probably the remote turn on like the other posts stated. It couldnt be anything else.

Oh, and its 2x50 watt RMS. BUT it is at least 2 ohm stable if not 1 ohm stable.

Cool, I am gonna have to hook it up and see what it can do... I read at one place that a HCCA-250, probably not the same model year, does 400x1 @ 1 ohm, so I am hoping it will be able to beat out the crappy amp I have now

That sounds about right. The amp is a serious piece of hardware -something you should hang on to cause they're kinda hard to find now days.

Yeah that might even be safe down to a 1/4 of an ohm or 1/2 an ohm. That means wattage of 800 or 1600. Not bad? I heard about those, and for the size, come on, 100 watts RMS is outta control. Thats probably a 4 ohm rating. You can run like 4 subs w/ that thing i bet u.
