Camaro Convertible SUB INFO

Just wanted to post stating that I installed a nice little Kicker Solobaric 8" sub with cheap Jensen amp bridged for 250w in the rear fender where the spare tire is suppose to be and it sounds very nice. Has a little more thump than the Monsoon system in my 99 TA which was more than I had hoped. I am 35 years old and just wanted a good full sound not a chest jarring, body panel rattling sound.

So I got a much improved sound (convertibles suck for stereo sound) with no loss of trunk space which was the goal. I never intended to use the spare tire on my car anyway. I have AAA to come take care of that.

If anyone wants to see a pic, I guess I can go out and shoot one of it.

I wanted a little more then you wanted...but i was willing to give up half of my trunk space....well it turns out i only used up 1/3. JL 10W0 in a .9 cu foot box that hugs the driver side and the amps for the main and the sub are gonna be mounted on the side of the box. I still have room for my "crap" that goes back there and my spare tire....

I was also looking for that "full" sound. So, I got a 10" Infinity Basslink. Takes up some of the trunk (but I have seen it in the spare tire area), but I took it on vacation and had room for my stuff.

I can even hear that my songs have bass going 75 miles an hour down the road with the top down

Here are the pics of my installation. Granted I am not a professional. I just used stuff I had lying around. As you can see there is room for a bigger speaker in there. I would say a 10" would work nicely since you can get some that don't require too much air space to produce their bass. I had the Kicker Solobaric 8" and the Qlogic box that it came in. Along with an old jensen amp that I had lying around, I managed to add some decent bass to an otherwise whimpy sounding system. It is not enough bass to make everything in the convertible rattle but it does fill a big void that all the convertibles have. All without loosing any trunk space. I never intended to use the spare anyway. I have a cigarette lighter air compressor in the other fender well to help me limp into a service station.

Yes that is a Radio shack speaker grill. I wanted (NEEDED) something with small tight holes so that loose stuff in the trunk wouldn't poke a hole in my sub. I put stuff in my trunk quite often and I drive somewhat spirited . I knew if I didn't cover that thing it wouldn't work for long.

Have you tried putting the plastic trim back in place? If you pack a little Dynamat on it I'll bet you can get it to cover the sub completely and not rattle.

Mine has the cheap cloth fabric cover and it fit easily over top of everything but it rattled HORRIBLY bad so I removed it and stuck it in the shed. Made it sound like the speaker was blown. Its not a show car so the trunk only needs to be functional, not beautiful.
