inverted amp install
im building a box for my car this weekend an di have a perfect box that hangs in the well in the rear, from a board kinda like a baffle would be, well with this box i was going to screw my amps into the floor. well i get the box done and it fits so perfeclty around the hatch release that i cant get it in
.
know heres my question if i make a box that goes in the bottem of the well could i hang my amps upside down on the board that i already have cut or is it bad for them to be upside down

Having them upside down isn't great for them, but I can't say it's bad either.
The little ridges you see on amps are heat sinks. They're made from aluminum and are used to disipate heat away from the amp. Since heat rises it's best to have the amp facing up (regular mounting position).
If you mount them against a wall then it's best to have all the heat sinks running vertically like this... ||||||| ... so that heat is more easily released from them. But again, this is just recommended.
Having them upside down will cause the heat to just dwell in between the heat sinks. The only way around that is if there's air flowing over (or under
) the heat sinks.
If the amps are going to be enclosed and away from any fresh air, then it could be bad. They'll never cool properly and will either shut down from the heat protection shut off (if it has one), or they'll just keep popping fuses, or worse, they will damage their own internal circuits.
A way around that is to make a ventilation system for them by using those little fans like on the back of your PC. Just have one on each end, one blowing in and the other out.

they should have circulation
im going to have my eclipse fireing straight up at them and there are going to be ports in the top board, i planned on installing teh fans if i needed them thats not a problem.
i was mainly concerned about the internalls of the amp
thank you for responding :hail:

As long as the amps have airflow to keep them from overheating, mounting them upside down will have no effect on the components. Electricity doesn't know whats up or down. Gotta love solid-state circuitry
