where did you run your amp wire!??!
i've been through a Z already... i had a 87 IROC-Z and some bastard ran into the front
, so now that's a total loss. After stripping all the audio and stuff i put in it, i realized that i had put the amp power wiring in a rather sh*tty place. I bought a 91 Z28 TPI and i was wondering if there's a better place that i could run the wire. Thanks! i'm up for any suggestions!

awesome, where does the wire go through the firewall? that's what i was really wondering. a lot of people have subs, so i was wondering if there was some place on the firewall more widely used. Thanks again

in a camaro, you'll wanna run the wire on the passenger side, seeing as the battery is over there. best bet, run it under the carpet near the plastic door sill is (you'll find the stock wires there, run it with them is the easiest way). i've always drilled a new hole and grommit for the power wire to get through the firewall, but some people just cut holes in ones already around near the kickpanel

GREAT pics Freeze! There are alot of people who are asking questions about how to run wires and you have it down perfect. Great job man,

hey, is there a sweet spot on the passenger side, too??, i just don't wanna have to run the amp power wire from the passenger to the driver side, then down the driver side, then back to the passenger side, cuz i keep my amp in the spare tire well, or maybe i shouldn't anymore... hmmm
Mine goes from battery (driver side) to firewall where it runs to the passenger side then through the grommet where my antenna wire was (I never listen to radio, and antennas are ugly) then under carpet, up to inside quarter panel where the 6x9 is, then under the hatch interior piece (located above the gas tank) to the spare tire well and out those square vent hole breather things. 4 gauge wire, no visibility of it except in engine bay and hatch and it was fairly easy to do... If you dont listen to your radio I would do the same thing or just drill a hole and grommet near the radio one, its a fairly decent open spot to do it. Later

Belker, I'm confused... there were some f-bodies with the battery on the passenger side... did you mean NO f-bodies, or none of the ones that posted messages?
I ran mine the same way Freeze did, drilled my own hole for it, too. Use things in the area as "guides" to place your hole. Although, one thing is different; I drilled from the inside of the car out into the engine bay. If you remove the door sill, and feel under the carpet, you'll find a black plastic wire guide. Feel -underneath- that guide, and you'll find a big gap, perfect for amp wire. My 4 gauge fit fine in there, and I think I could put 0 gauge in that spot, too.

Sorry for the confusion (TomP). More cleary - some f-bodies have the battery on the passengers side and some have it on the drivers side. I guess it depends on the year and/or model but I'm not sure which years are which. CAMp3RO said "in a camaro, you'll wanna run the wire on the passenger side, seeing as the battery is over there" and I wanted to express that this is definately not ALWAYS true. For instance, I have a '91 Camaro and the battery is on the driver's side.

I'm about to upgrade from an 8 gauge wire to a 4 gauge and would like to find another location to run the wire myself.... drilling may take place. My question is where do you get one of those grommet deals? Also, since i'm installing a new head deck does anyone know of a place where I can get heat shrink tubing? I was lucky to find a privately owned car audio shop that had some last time but i'm not living in the same area any more and was wondering if any chain stores carry it. I've tried radio shack and they're useless. so is best buy and circuit city.
Your can get both items at Lowes hardware/home improvement store. Other hardware store may have these items also. The grommets are in the drawers by the nuts & bolts. Heatshrink is by the electrical connectors.

Thanks for the info. There are no Lowe's in my area so I headed to Home Depot and found both items right in the electrical connectors section.

considering i ahve 0 guage wire in my car under the carpet was not an option. I have it running under the car on the passanger side. it goes under the ground effect on that side up over the sheel well and into the spare tire compartment. sounds confusing but it works verry well.
