Stripper stereo
The original owner of my 88 firebird decided that tunes weren't that important and skimped, opting for a tape deck and dash speakers. Is there anyway to put the speakers in the back? I know they go in the pillar, but mine are hard plastic and dont' have soft covers like some i have seen. I have some bostons in front, and they are nice and clear but i need some bigger speakers for a little more oomph in the low end. Any ideas?
THanks, by the way i have a pioneer din and a half cd head in there now.

you wanting subs or the 6x9's in the side panels? if you are seeking the 6x9's, i say eclipse makes damn good , clear sounding mids and highs, ...or you can spring for mb quart and go all out and pay 300 bucks for em.

I appreciate the recommendations, but i need to know how to actually mount the 6x9's in the sail panels.
Any info or suggestions on that are also welcome

unscrew the lil clothes hanger **** or whatever it is at the top, then push upwards on the panel, itll come off, ....4 screws on the speakers , might be hex screws , might be bot head screws, either way, 4 screws and they are out, ...you can get an adapter to hook up the new speakers at best buy, or you can go my way and just cut n splice em, save ya 10 bucks and not have to deal with morons at best buy. Reverse the process, and ya done. turn the car on, and enjoy your newly installed speakers.

My sail panels seem to be one piece all the way to the trunk, i don' thave the soft panels on it right now, my car was ordered from the factory without any speakers. Do i need new panels? or do the plastic pieces come out? is that what you were saying?
thanks

you mean there are no holes in the side panels in the back?ouch try removing the whole panel, after you do that see if the actual speaker holes are in the car, *lets hope so* if they are hook speakers in them and you can either drill about 15 spall holes where the speakers are so the sound can go through or you can cut a large hol eout with a razor or somthing and put some fabric over it. i suggest just going to a junkyard and getting the panels that are made for the speakers. but if you are short on cash isuggest drilling the holes "without the speakers in it of course" there seems to be no real easy way to do this, ive never encountered this problem before... but if all else fails go buy the left and right panels froma junkyard "the whole panel i mean, not just the speaker panel cover" ...hell you might could cut it out and fashion some speaker covers in there, ..now is the time to be creative, ...you COULD just build a lil box for them and put them on your back seat with the seat folded down, .....or just go buy the modular looking speakers in the plastic box and mount them on the sides where the speakers *should* be. either way let me know how it works, ..im here to help. im full of ideas, i was really into customizing the interior of cars a few years back so we can get around this

so I mounted the speakers to the metal (had to drill holes...) and put a generic speaker grille over the hole....worked pretty well then.....
