good anti theft ideas
some crack-**** busted out my window just to get the change from my ash tray! left my HU,tools etc.. this just goes to show that you can't have anything nice these days. some degenerate crack-***** is always going to come creeping around and mess your stuff up.
I know a good alarm system is the way to go, but I'm short on cash right now, so I've been taking the starter relay inside with me each night. this situation makes me much less inclined to put any more stereo equipment in my car, unless I can make it nearly impossible for the average drug addict to remove in the dark of night.
I've thought of bolting the amps to the metal chassis of the car, under the seats or trunk area (this isn't a thirdgen, but it could be done in a thirdgen with respect to the gas tank) using wierd uncommon screw heads or large rivets. then I thought of welding the amps chassis to the metal...but, even if the amp wasn't a gem, it would most likely get ruined with arc current. what about gas weld??
has anyone experimented with lethal high current "shock therapy"? I know it's kind of mean, but they shouldn't be in the car in the first place right? (certain countries in Africa have resorted to lethal means, such as spring loaded "bear trap" blades wich cut the drivers feet off or lock the doors and toast the thief with 1000 degrees of propane goodness!!.....cool, but what about the car?
I like the one about the feet, because at least you can just replace the carpet. just make sure that thing is disarmed before your driving!
for those of you who think this is mean, have your car screwed with a few more times and you will quickly lose compassion for the degenerate scumbags who will take away everything you've worked for just to buy a rock!
what I want more than anything is a silent alarm, linked to a pager. this way i can be waiting around the corner and bring some scumbags' night to a bloddy and painfull end!
any good ideas to protect our material possesions?

well, the crack ****** and drug addicts are not the ones that are going to mess with you even if you buy a flashing led for 2 dollars and mount it in your dash.. pick up a decent alarm and have it installed, should cost you like 200-250, and that will solve most of your problems.. the people who are experienced thieves are not going to be detered anyway, and by the time your pager goes off and you get there they're probably gone aynway.. as for shooting flames at intruders, chopping off their feet, flooding your car with poison gas, electrocuting them, etc... they all sound nice, until you get sued for millions of dollars by the thief and lose, because you will... a cheap but effective defense for your vehicle is to pur NRA stickers on your car, leave some shells scattered around on the floor and seats, and to finish it off put a blinking LED in your dash... sounds cheesy, but nobodys going to mess with you

A Rotweiler works pretty well.
Think I'm kidding?
I did that for a while. There was a pot head that lived down the street from me. I heard it was him that broke into my 'Stang and swipped my stuff. I had a Rotweiler that was about 2yrs old.
Every night (with the exception of winter months) I put her in the car. And for those who think that's 'cruel' or mean, she was in there for 8 hrs at the most, and that IMO was no different than keeping her in her kennel in the basement all night.
Anyway..... (sorry I had to pre-defend my self from the 'liberalists' and 'treehuggers'
) NOBODY ever messed with that car again. I suppose if they wanted to dig through 2 ft of snow in the winter to get into my car, then more power to them. I didn't want my girl to freeze to death. She cost more than the car did.

Thumbtacks on the seat......
They have to sit down to steal the cd unit or change for that matter.....
Take a piece of cloth and place tumbtacks in it and secure them.......everynight before you go inside lay it down on the seat, then place another sheet of fabric on top ot it.....to cover it....
LOL, I'm not joking it works wonders.....

what about this, you know that 99% of new cars have an alarm, and that people just dont care anymore when they hear the alarm go off, they just figure someone bumped it or whatever. So instead of mounting the siren under the hood, try getting a 125db+ siren and mount it under the dash so that when that thief kicks off the alarm and is sitting there trying to steal the stereo, they have that siren blaring in their ears!:lala: :lala:

get a colum lock when you can afford it, worth the cash, removing the relay works but they will still tear up your colum and try.
They will, I guy i know had his car and garage burnt up from that, they just kept trying and trying to start it, not realizing the carb was removed, gas, spark, boom.
colum lock is big bright orange hunk of steal, car theives put them on their car.
fake blinking led lights work, but on a system you just gotta not show off, keep it to your self, dont be bragin it up and showing off, talk it down if anything.
say you got dual audiovox 40watt power boosters and some radio shack house speakers.
anyone ever have one of them audiovox 40watt power boosters, 15 buck and just a big button for on an off???
what a classic, I think it was a ture 40watts, I made a set of 15 crunches bump with one back in the day.

HIDs and thumbtacks on the seat!!! I love it!
I was going to do the "sirene in the car" thing myself, I've alawys belived that a ridiculous decible level with a single constant tone inside the car would be almost impossible for anyone to bear!
I know i can throw in a viper system or whatever, provided I get the cash. as mentioned here before, that's just going to do the same "chipr chirp chirp...woop wooop woop...nerp nerp" ....BS that everyone else's alarm does!
yes, alarms are somewhat effective in any case. I'm shooting for something that can really cause problems for a potential thief.
when I get my game together and can afford to do more than just remove relays and re-wire my ignition circuit with hidden switches, I will have an alarm installed that will push the limits as to what is allowed by state, local and federal laws!
I think the "silent" alarm would work best, what better surprize than being struck in the face with a bat as one exits the car with an armful of whatever??
however this can be inconvinient if you'd rather not go running into the night barefoot, with the deadliest object you can find as you leave the house, this is where the optional, 185Db single tone dual sirenes can come in handy!! does anyone make those? maybee a fog horn for a boat??
the HID idea is a great substitute for a more complicated idea I had about setting up hiden cameras with electronic flashes that can transmit digital images to an FM reciever which can upload the data to a PC, while camera flashes can be slightly blinding and discourage someone who knows they've been captured in a photo...this whole camaera thing is probably not within my budjet.
the HIDs would be nice if I could put them in the roof or somewhere where the wires could not be cut right away.
I like the HID idea!
I will put those tacks together right away! now what I'm about to say here may be completely out of line, but considering noone belongs in my car and could possibly have any business sitting in my driver's seat...poisonig the tips of the tacks so the loser's butt cheecks rash and fall off? yes! this can be done! no only do they get "poked" they lose all feeling in thier rear end and can't remember thier way to the crackhouse!

talk about hopty alarms that gurt, back in the day when I had a car but was not old enough to dirve. got thinking one day and took the smoke alarm off the wall, it made a great alarm but only worked when the door was open. loud and anoying though.
I knew a guy with an old stock Gm alarm that you use a key in the fender to turn it on and off. he hooked up air horns, you could hear it miles and miles away.

A local bolt store should carry some of them, most likely the SnakeEyes and can order the rest. Opsit is one I would say would be real good.

this is good stuff!! I didn't expect all of these good ideas to come together so quickly!
so next time someone breaks into my car, they will get blinded by HIDs, get ears blown out with 225Db fog horn, get poked in the *** with several large thumtacs, reach under my seat and get their hand caught in a mini bear trap, as thier hand is welded between the blades and the seat track with strait battery current....all to find out they need some special tool to get my amp!!
now with thier hand being barbecued by all of the 12v goodness the battery has to offer, this could be a potential fire hazard!!....oh well!! I wouldn't really do that (I wouldn't want my car to catch fire) but it sure would be funny!
I think the best way to secure the amps would be to weld a pair of small U beam steel rails to the car, with enough room for them to be cut away later, if the need comes. then tack weld the amps case to the "tracks" if this can be done without using electric welding and overheating the transistors, it could be done. most amps have a service panel wich is on the bottom, the "innards" could be removed while welding the case to the tracks, then re-installed once the amp is ready to be welded into place. this would be fairly inconvenient, and not popular with the real stereo junkies who like the cosmetic stuff. the whole purpose of the tracks, again, is to provide an good amont of steel to allow an acytaline torch to rip through, in case the amp ever needed to be removed again. this would most likely void the warranty though, so it would best be done with old stuff. I know this all sounds to be a bit impractical, but us city-boys need a stereo that's going to stay in the car!
the number one rule of stereos is to never ever brag or show it off. there was little to indicate that my Trans Am had any kind of stereo in it, but it still got jacked. As far as I'm concerned, my music is for me and my passengers, noone else. the problem is that all stereo equipment eventually gets stolen and sold for crack money by pointless people who have no apreaciation for life itself, cockroaches as far as I'm concerned.

THIS IS WHAT YOU DO
In order to keep people from just taking things from the interior of the car place infared beams on the inside of the car that are hooked to flame thrower under car blowing upward. As far as stealing it it simple rig a damn pipe bomb in the center console hooked to a pager and when you see it is missing page the damn thing.

lol.....some funny ideas. You can always do what i did....i screwed razor blades to my sub board right around where the amps are....so..lol....anyone tries to steel the amps....looses there fingers with it....cause the way i rigged them on the board...noone will be able to figure out how to get them off the board without cutting themselves. I still got to put an alarm in so the rest of the car isnt tampered with.

Ive always had an idea to rig batterys and amps to the skin of the car so when you touch it you get shocked, but have it so it goes up in voltage each time you touch it so like the first time would be like a little stronger than a static shock and so on and so forth, TILL THEY STOP MESSING WITH MY CAR! lol
RE: Electrifying skin
#1. If you ask your dad, he has either done this already thru what was called a magneto ignition, or knew someone who has whom he grew up with. It is very possible and easy to do.
#2. With the amount of fiberglass and plastics that are on newer cars, and I am including 80's model cars, it would probably be hard to keep a solid connection from bumper to bumper.
lol
I say the pipe bomb works best, cuz after you have blown up 1 car NO ONE will even park near your car. lol

yea, pipe bombs are fun to play with, but I'm not really looking to kill anyone, especially if it's a cop checking out my car after it's been reported stolen...
this is a great post, thanks to everyione's ideas. I appreaciate the moderators not locking this one up. I'm going to print this page and save it for the next time I get something nice to drive, or can afford something nice to drive!
that razor blade idea is evil!! I love it! it reminds me of a fellow form the Bronx I met, who had his car broken into 3 times within a month, so finally he tack welded 6 stanley razor blades on the rear of his head unit (so they looked like heat sink blades) and bolted a huge ground cable to it. the next time his car got broken into, the radio was still hanging there and there was blood all over the dash board area....kind of gross, but good revenge.
I think most of these ideas alone can do a great deal to protect most cars. obviously we'll have to separate the practical from the un-practical, but that's all in good brain-storming....any engineer will agree to that, no idea is a bad idea, keep 'em coming!!

RE: MAGNETO IGNITION
When my dad explained this setup to me he said it was cool since he had a convertible and never had to disengage the setup as he could just jump in and never touch the electrified body at all. Otherwise you had to get the hood open without shocking the bajezzas out of your self and move some wire off of the body in order to open the door.

and while that crack-***** skeezer is maliciously vandalizing my car, I'll be alerted by my pager (silent alarm) and if the SH*^ for brains is still ripping my car apart when I get out there, I'll be caving in his head with my 36" prybar with base-ball grip taped on the handle (contstucted after I found my broken window) I am now at war with prowlers and petty thiefs!! come around my nigehborhood and you might be leaving in an ambulance....or crawling and bleeding. I will give these people some credit, they have to have some ***** or just be really cracked out to go messing with someone's car on a saturday night. I was out late that night too, I could have caught them i the act..
bottom line, I don't care if somone wants to break into my car and ...break my car. I would rather come outside and find my car still there than to have some crack **** make way with 35 cents worth of ashtray change to buy another micro-rock. these people are seriously living on the edge becasue if i ever caught one of them, I would shatter thier knee caps and throw thier A$$ in the Elizibeth River and I wouldn't call 911 for them either.
most importantly, a good combo ( loud alarm (ludacris loud),hard to remove valuables, silent page, bright lights etc..) working in unison is what would prevent any serious thefts and let the scumbags know that my car isn't there to be fuched with.

If you make things like razor blades and thumbtacks your security system, it doesn't really protect your stuff. It will just make them pissed off and they will still steal whatever they can, and now sinc you hurt them they'll probably also destroy whatever they can before leaving.
My friend AJ and I want to rig strobe lights in our interiors. We figure most theft occurs at night, so they'll be breaking into the car when suddenly a fast flashing strobe light is blinding them so they can't see what they're trying to steal... can't see to try and disconnect it or the alarm.... want to put one in my engine bay, interior, trunk....

that's true, once someone is pissed off, they will do all kinds of messed up stuff. the main purpose is to make your car as difficult to break in as possible and using bright lights, like xenon strobes...that's a good idea! I won't drain the battery, but will probably make most people find another car. it sure would attract attention too! somewhere in my attic, I have an old strobe kit, they are easy to make. you can build them from partsexress or radio shack if you like paying more for cheap electronics.
here's a completly wacky idea I came up with when microwaving some popcorn. I was wondering if the magnetrons in the microwave really goeas bad, or if its other circuitry that degrades the performance over time. or maybee the transmission end gets dirty. well most people would have no idea where this was going, but if your into telecommunications or know a little about it, a microwave beam can cook someone from the inside out! everyone in my communications class wanted to figure out how to construct a microwave tranmitter that could direct a 1/4" beam of several watts of microwave goodness....just athought
someone can sit in my drivers seat and get thier brain metled! don't laugh, this is possible.

I can't rember where but someone actually made a microwave cannon from an old microwave oven. He had pics of it melting plastic then setting it on fire. The only thing was that the cannon woth all of the focusing equipment was like 3-4 ft long.

I would imagine it would be quite the bulky setup, I wonder if one of these stupid satalite dishes could be fitted to a wave guide and focus the beam into a very thin strait line. the reason it needs to be in such a narrow beam, is to concentrate all of the power to have enought to actually cook something. I wouldn't even know where to start, I guess one would need some very good math skills to make something like that happen..and who the heck wants to play around with stray microwave energy??? not me!! if I could park my car within range from my window (line of sight), I would keep that gizmo aimed right into my car and make the alarm activate it.....then you would find some jerk wandering around the nieghborhood, not remembeing his name. no-one would have a clue what happened!
well, we can't even how to electrify the car's skin with a magneto ignition, so this microwave thing will have to wait....
not to mention, an enrgized magnetron would drain the battery in about two minutes.

I had a viper alarm in my 71 Camaro and the car kept going off b/c what I thinki were the thieves kept throwing apples at the car basically making it cry wolf att the time until one time it was for real. my dash wash just destroyed. I now have an 84 Trans Am as you can see by my name and I was wondering if anyone has tried installing a radio behind the pouch on the pass side dash???not sure if thier would be room behind the dash for a radio but is so then have the pouch covering it and have the old junky Delco in the center cosole and maybe thieves wouldn't even think of looking for an amp, who would hook up an amp to a factory radio that is pushing almost 20 years old right!!!
alarms a good BUT if the thief wants your stuff they WILL get it. I heard of one alram that must have been hooked up to a capacitor b/c if the alarm would go off and the thief got inside the car and touched anything metal the car would act like a stun gun and drop the thief like a bad habit. I def don'e see a prob with that after all the theif was not supposed to be in the car anyway.
