Well, what's the difference between ported and sealed boxes? What does it mean to tune to xx hz? How do you figure out the right size for a box?

The easiest way is to go by the manufacturer's recommended size. The second easiest way is to use special software. The hardest, but often cheapest way is to get the formulas from a library book and do a lot of math. As far as sealed and ported differences, instead of rewriting a long article, I'm going to point you in the direction of www.jlaudio.com. Look under the tutorials section for an abundance of useful information on the subject. Hope that helps some!
