Front Speaker Installation help

I got some Infinity Reference speakers for the front. Forgot to order the speaker adapters for the stock wiring so I had to wait for those too.

Well, when I went to install the left front speaker, it wouldn't seat all the way down. There is a sort of air duct that is preventing it from doing so. The right side will go all the way in.

Another problem for both sides is that none of the bolts holes line up with the holes in the speaker brackets in the dash. Is there anyway that I can work around this problem? It's too late for me to return the speakers and make up some excuse (I'm overseas and sometimes plenty busy). Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ok, so any ideas on how to get the left hand front speaker all the way inside? I was thinking there was some adapter bracket or something I could get.

melt the duct so it fits. quoted from the tech article:

If it is just plastic pieces, you can grind them away with a dremmel. If the back of the heater box (which is also plastic, but you can tell the difference) you will need to heat it and bend it back. Get the heat gun and a 2x4 that has been rounded at the end. Large amounts of heat can cause a windshield to crack, and even though you probably won't get it that hot, it's a good idea to take precautions. Tape some paint sticks (or something else about 1/8" thick that isn't meltable) to a piece of aluminum about 1 square foot. Tape the whole assembly to the windshield near the heat gun. This will keep the windshield cool. Anyway, put the heat to the plastic heater box, and with the 2x4, poke it easily until it becomes soft. Then remove the heat and slowly push the soft plastic back with the 2x4 and hold it there until it cools. To another test fit with the speaker and repeat as necessary. If you manage to poke through the heater box, don't panic. if the hole is small enough, plug it with hot glue or duct tape. If the hole is a little bigger, use a bigger piece of duct tape and spread hot glue over it.

I put Boston Acoustic plates in my car and I had to scrape some of the plastic out of the way. I just used a utility knife and it worked fine.

my rockford 4x6's did that too...i just used a few washers cause the speaker only needed about 1/4 inch to mount level. seems like the dashpad fits on nice and straight still also.

Ok, I still haven't gotten the chance to take out the dash yet and see if I can drill my own holes yet or to do that heat gun thing. I think though that if I do drill any new holes that they might overlap the ones already there.

While this thread is still pretty new, is there anyplace that I can get brackets in case I am unable to drill new holes for the reason I stated above? I'm sure I can make it work but I wanted to ask first.

if the old holes overlap, you could just use a nut and bolt to hold the speaker on...and watch the heat gun near your gauges, accidents there would suck horribly...
