Subs or bass tubes
i am curious to know the benefits of subs over bass tubes and visa versa. i was told that the tube would be better in a f-body because there is no trunk to, in a sense, cushion the bass and it will sound bad if not in a trunk, so i was told to get a bass tube, but i noticed everyone has subs, so what is the best set up and how much can i expect to spend on sub amp and cd player?

I have heard some pretty mean subs in boxes..and some relaly mean bass tubes. I installed a 12 inch bass tube in my brothers 87 Z28..and omg..I was soooo surprise....it pounds pretty hard for just one 12.....we have to cut out a portion of the back panel in order to squeeze it in there.....I can get pics if anyone is interested....Myself...I have a box in my 91....and it sounds good...just one 12....but..my brothers sounds like 10 times better.....

at the end of the day a box will sound better. that whole cushion the bass thing is incorrect. a tube would be good if you just want some lowend to you system or will be transfering it between different cars, so you dont have to build a box, and ithey are usually more room efficient. id say go with a box
what is your price range and what type of music do you listen to, are you more into SQ or SPL?

what is the difference between sq ans slp(i dont knwo what they stand for anyway), but i am waiting on a settlement, my 91 RS was totaled by a drunk driver and i am waiting to get money from him for the damages, but that may take a while, but i could shell out 500, but then again my friend works at bestbuy and gives me the hella hookup on stuff. but i listen to just about everything, but mainly hard rock(korn metallica, RZ, pantera, taproot, adema, stuff like that) but my second group is rap, more rock/rap than rap, but then i can filter down into classical or country at times, depends on my mood, but for that, is one 12 good, or 2 10's better, any suggestions are awesome. thanx

SPL = Sound Pressure Level = How loud it goes in decibels
SQ = Sound Quality = How "real" does it sound
I don't know if this is a fair comparison, but I had two 8", 8 ohm Bazookas in my car before the single 12" I had them stacked in the well, one facing the driver's side, and the other the passenger's side.
Over all, it hit A LOT HARDER than what I have now. And I mean A LOT HARDER!!!!!!
It's not fair (I don't think) to compare them to the single 12" I have now since it was two against one, but the amp was still putting out the same power..... so as far as that goes it was fair.
The reason I changed over was I wanted the clean look of an actual install, not a couple of bass tubes laying in the back. It looks a WHOLE lot cleaner IMO.

i have only heard bazooka tubes in the 8", and from my experience the plain ol' subs hit a lot harder...i know there are some sweet tubes out there..and if ur looking for space id go with that..the box has a lot more space which gives a deeper sounds allowing a harder hit...however..the drawback is that you have to supply the sub with more power....just my 2 cents

AJ, I like what you did with your box there. I'm sorta thinking about that sorta idea for my car as well. Do you have the dimensions? It looks very clean!

I used to have a custom box in my car years ago (2 10s) And i think the box had better sound quality while now i have 1 10 inch audiobahn and it hits harder than the box.I took the box out to save weight and so i can put mt t tops back there......
