no need to go larger than 16 for your remote, 14 would be the max (and it would still be overkill). one way to check to see if its the remote wire, make sure the power and ground are hooked up to the amp. next, get a small piece of wire and connect one end to the remote in and the other end to the 12+. the amp should turn on. also, check to see if the head unit is even putting out power to the remote wire. take a voltmeter, hook the ground up to chassis (or anywhere else thats grounded) and touch the other probe to the remote wire. if the head unit is on, it should be putting out 12v. if it is, and the previous test also worked, then your remote wire got broken somewhere down the line. had this happen to me (screwed a panel down to tight and it cut the wire.

The amp will not turn on with out a 12V source to tell it to turn on. You could run a Zillion volts to it. Still wont come on.
Must use a remote wire. or sumpting like that.
Any 12-18 guage wire should be fine. But 12 is gonna be kinda big...

When you want the amp to turn on, hit the switch.

I'm a little confused about you guys that are using up to 12 gauge for the remote wire. I just did an install with a rockford fosgate amp kit (one of those rediculously overpriced ones) and the remote wire was 20 gauge. Come to think of it I don't ever remember seeing an amp kit that came with anything bigger than 20 gauge. Is there some sort of benefit to having a larger remote wire that I'm missing

i'm doing it because its stronger and the coating is thicker... with me i'm always taking out my dash, pannels, head unit... stuff like that so i give my wiring a pretty good beating while i'm at it. this way it wont be as likley to accidentally expose something. (i've screwed my head unit twice now, im going with the better safe than sorry method)
thanks for the info for the switch.

Didn't see anyone mention it, but does your remote wire coming off the headunit harness have a fuse? I know the top Premier models have this fuse, don't know about the lower lines though. The fuse they put on it is REALLY small and REALLY EASY to blow.

nope, its defentally the head unit though. theres nothing else it could be. i got the amp to work and took a line directly from the head unit to the remote on teh amp and nothing... i did have another question though. i remember reading something about its bad to cross 2 certain wires. is that the power and ground wires? because right now they are crossing, right infront of the amp. or was it the power wire and speaker wire? i have no idea, thanks alot though

it is best to keep power wires away from signal wires (such as speaker or rcas). it is not horrible to do, it just makes your system more likely to have noise.
