AMp Power?

Aight. i got 2 MB quart 12 inch dual voice coil 300W subs. not installed but in the midst. first question. i want a rockford amp becuase ive always had good luck with them. what size would be good to sufficiently power these to subs.
2 question. how many cubic feet should i build the box(sealed) to get maximum pound.
3) what do u like better sealed or ported and why?
thanks for all the help

if you dont mind building the box a few times, or finding the resonant frequency of the car i definitely prefer PORTED enclosures.

with MB quart woofers, i would probably stick with a moderately sized sealed for sq. and id definitely be looking for about 800-900rms from my amp.

2 300 watt subs, being driven by an 800 watt amp? hummmm.... yeah thats a great idea.

ported would probably be the loudest. if you are building it yourself, though, i would do a sealed. it is very easy to mess up a ported box, plus if its not almost perfect in terms of volumes, it will not sound any better and maybe even worse than a sealed enclosure. good luck either way.

hey assface, you can turn an amp down, but by not driving it TOO HARD you keep it out of distortion as opposed to a 600 watt that would be all the way up.

it would also give him a little more room to move up as far as subs go.

If you're building the box yourself, and you dont have someone else's plans, build a sealed just to get yourself started and on the road....

It took me a weekend to get everything built and installed in my car, and it's still looks like *** - I'm going to have to go back to the cutting board, and I'm VERY glad I didn't try to do a ported box the first time around...

Car audio is supposed to be trial and error, right?

if all you're interrested in is SPL, the quart subs were definately not the right choice. Those subs are a nice, very clean sounding sub. They are made strictly for sound quality, and aren't going to be capable of producing the SPL of most other similarly priced subs. If you want a box that sounds good, just call quart or a quart dealer and find out what box they reccomend. They may be able to help out with an SPL box too, but you're not starting out with the right sub if SPL is your goal.

i dont think it is necessary to call me names. this way of doing it is not necessarily the safest. you could probably do it like that, but someone like a88 doesnt know what they are doing and blow a sub. its not all that likely but very possible.

one, you should keep your opinions in pm's not on post. ill expect an apology.

lanzar is not all that great. if you are going for sq, then there are far better choices. that amp has a pretty low s/n ratio. look for something with an s/n ratio in the high 90s to 100s or better. you want as efficent as you can get. fosgates are characteristically good when it comes to sq. there are many others also. good luck finding something you like.

you can expect in one hand and poop in the other, guess which one will fill up faster.

okay, if you cant TURN THE AMP DOWN when the subs make a horrid noise, then you shouldnt have a stereo.

its not like people blow subs when they are sounding good.

if the sub makes a noise it shouldnt, turn the amp down.

now you have a great amp, capable of powering more than your current setup, and you will have better clarity,

i dont see any minuses with that setup.

While I also use a much bigger amp than I need I don't recomend it for everyone, atleast not if you new to car audio. Some people can't hear and don't understand what distortion is when they first get started and with alot of excess power it can take a very short time to cause damage to your subs.

That's exactly why they SHOULD have more power. You'll kill a sub faster by sending it a clipped signal than you will by overpowering it with a clean signal.

that lanzar is not good.

OLD autotek, OLD Lanzar, OLD fosgate, any of the OLD amps (92-95) are going to give you great bang for the buck, if you can find them.

i had an old Punch 55, i wish i still had that thing, it thumped great for its size.

kicker makes good amps, i personally am using pheonix, JL makes wonderful amps, if you arent going to be going for SPL.
